P0500 Nissan Code - Vehicle Speed Sensor

My Nissan Pathfinder 96 dash clocks stoped working, the rpm goes all the way to the other side when i start and the speed sometimes work and some others dont, is this the sensor malcfunctioning or should i have to get the clocks.

Do you have any transmission performance problems? if you don't, then more than likely the problem is the speedometer (clocks).

I changed my speedometer in my 2000 maxima I got one from the same year but it came out from a gle but I have a se and now now my speedo don't work and it will not turn miles what could it be

Either you have a bad speed sensor (turbine sensor) or the speedometer you got is bad as well.

2002 nissan frontier getting a p0500 and p0328 vss and knock. It sputters once in a while, shifting to n and back to d clears the stutter. Any thoughts would be aprecciated

The knock sensor won't caused any drivability problems, but the speed sensor it's probably the cause of the sputter.

Yes, it very possible that the problem is the speedometer. Usually the problem is either the speed sensor or the speedometer. On your Nissan the speed sensor sends the signal to the speedometer and then the signal is transform and send to the Engine Control Module (ECM).

Before replacing any parts, check the 4 screws (red arrows) that attached the speedometer to the combination meter. The 4 screws are the only connection to the circuit board and sometimes get loose causing the speedometer to stop working properly.

2000 Nissan Maxima (manual trans) - Two P0500 codes thrown after driving on wet streets (?). May have taken off in a non-standard gear. There doesn't seem to be any speedometer, tach, or drivability issues at all; just the CEL. Erased the code; drove about fifty miles and it came back on (two again). Same symptoms -- in other words, none. I'd be inclined to not worry about it at all except that I would then not know when a more serious issue might arise. Suggestions?

If more serious issues arise, you more than like have driveability problems.
Check the screws on the back of the speedometer and the speed sensor connector.

By back of the speedometer, I'm guessing you mean dismantling the dash, yes? And are you saying to also check the screws at the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission (that is, the single screw as shown in the diagram)? If so, what am I looking for there...looseness, corrosion, either?

The speedometer connects to the circuit board with 4 screws. You have to remove the gauges and the check the screws on the back.
For the speed sensor you have to check the connector. Make sure the connector it's firmly connected.

I'm having that same problem

I have been having a problem with my speedometer and odometer not working along with my check engine light, abs light and intelligent key light is on.. i took it to autozone to get the codes and mine was for the VSS.. so replaced that and the car would run fine 5 minutes later i would have the same problem help me? Its for a 2007 nissan altima 2.5 6speed!

Unfortunately diagnosing the P0500 sometimes is not that easy. The best way is to read the signals from the sensor with an scanner, and depending on the type of signals, you can determine if the problem is the speed sensor on the transmission, the speed sensor (ABS sensor) on one of the wheels or the combination meter (gauges).

At this point I recommend having a technician diagnose your Sentra.

Hi. I am having a problem with my 2001 Nissan Sentra (P0500 code). The speedometer doesnt work and the transmission will not shift properly and sometimes it will stuck in 1st gear. I have replaced the sensor and clear the code but again it is coming back and the transmission still have problems with the shifting as well as the speedometer not working at all.

In your Cube the P0500 code could be either the transmission speed sensor (see image below) or the ABS wheel sensors. To clean the sensor, you have to remove it and use parts cleaner to clean the sensor.

I just got my Nissan Xtrail T32 scanned and got P0500 error code. Not sure if the issue is the speed sensor or the speedometee itself. The symptom I have is the speedometer, odometer, fuel indicator intermittently stop working. But sometimes it's back to normal. I tried to take off the accu cable, and everything will be back to normal, but does not last long, as the problem keep coming back.
Appreciate for any advice.
