Discuss the causes and fixes for P0447 Nissan OBDII Code

My troubleshooting code is P0447, should I start by replacing the solenoid or the vapor canister purge valve? I took the solenoid out and tested it and I can hear the solenoid engaging but who knows if it is engaging all the way? Where should I start?
-
If the connector is OK and there are no obvious wire damage, the EVAP canister vent control valve is more than likely the cause of the problem.
-
Looking on rock auto's website there is a vapor cannister vent solenoid or there is a vapor canister purge valve. Which is it? The code at Auto Zone reads evap canister vent control valve - circuit open probable cause. To me, that says its a solenoid issue or a faulty wiring harness? I just bought a new solenoid and installed it, light goes off during first second or two then kicks on. Does it take time to adjust or should it go off instantly?
-
The system needs to test the system. Try disconnecting the car battery to reset the system.

My Nissan Frontier 2004 had both a p0447 and a p1490 trouble codes. It took me some time but I traced it to a wiring problem. Had 12v at the cab splice on the passenger side wiring harness but no power at the canister purge valve and the by-pass cut valve. Pulled new wire and soldered it in place. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. You'll need a wiring diagram to sort it out. I got mine from my local librarian. Chilton has a reference source that breaks the wiring down by specific trouble code. So check it out.
