U1000 Nissan Code - CAN Communication Line Signal Malfunction

I recently had my battery replaced at a Nissan dealership. Not long after, the Service Engine Soon light comes on (steady not blinking). The code reads U1000. Coincidence?

It's very possible that the code is just a coincidence, but make sure that the battery terminals are tight. On the "Tech Notes" above there is a link to a factory service bulletin that explains how to repair the problem. Usually cleaning the ground terminals, as the bulletin explains, takes care of the code.

I took my 2005 nissan pathfinder to walmart to change the oil, they said they sprayed the battery terminal with baking soda to clean it, a few hours later the service engine light came on and the code u1000 came up when i took it in to check it.

Start by re-tighten the battery terminals and clear the code. If the code comes back, perform the procedure indicated on the factory service bulletin mention on the "Tech Notes".

I work for Aamco transmissions we had a 2004 maxima come in we rebuilt the transmission and when I went to start the car after the repair the battery was low so I hooked up a jump box and this is where I made a mistake the ignition was on when I hooked up the jump box resulting in the gas gage to turn all the way around and hit the lower side of the pin and it set u1000 u1001 and p0::: I for got the code but it's discription was fuel level sensor high voltage I couldn't get rid of the u1000 cleaned the grounds and charged battery checked the ECM grounds behind the glove box I couldn't figure it out called the dealer again this time they said take the cover off and spin the needle back around to empty so I did and it fixed it I have come to th. conclusion that when I hooked up the jump box with the key on caused a voltage spike that caused the fuel gage to peg all the way around that set the u1000 problem solved

i changed transmission in my sentra 2008 and got u1000 code. The engine starts and goes forward and back slow and very weak, almost nothing of energy. the person to try to fix this problem, has to be an expert in transmissions or only technician in electronic problems in cars? does it have to do with computer or transmission i installed recently?

No need to be an expert, but it's possible the transmission you installed is from a different year or model and may not be compatible with your Sentra. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) inside the transmission is different.

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan King Cab. Service Engine Light was on (no blinking). Code U1000. 2nd time it's happen. Both times it was the battery connection. Cleaned with a wire brush and WD40. Reconnected, Light was gone..... Hope this helps someone else too! Now that it's happen 2x, I know for sure that's what the code means

I work for AAMCO,we've got an 03 Altima,no codes but no communication with TCM.

The U1000 code means that the ECM cannot communicate with one or more control units. If no engine performance problem are present, then the problem is either the wire signal from the ECM to the TCM or the TCM itself.

Unfortunately the U1000 code only means that there is a communication problem, but doesn't say exactly what the problem is. There are more test that needs to done to find what the problem is. You should start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition. Change the fluid if necessary.

Check/add grounds in engine bay. Adding a grounding kitbhas been proven to improve Sentra's with auto transmission's shifting. Also check fluid while warmed up and running in park/neutral

Sub cpu connection error 1 comes up on 2010 nissan maxima while diagnosis is done on the vehicle. What could be the cause of this?

The U1000 means that there was a communication error with another control unit ( e.g. transmission control unit, ABS control unit, etc. )
If no drive ability problems are present, you could start by inspecting the engine harness ground

I have recently changed the transmission fluid 6 mos. ago then front and rear catalytic converter was changed new, added new ground in ecm but still the service engine soon won't turn off. Is their any more you can suggest please so that the service engine ligth off...

Do you get any other codes besides the U1000? what model and year is your Nissan? Have you check the bulletin link under "Tech Notes" above?

I have a 2010 nissan sentra this is giving this code also codes P1212/U1001/U1000/ P1722 drives fine but all the warning lights are on and speedo, odometer, and gas gauge not working tac rpm gauge works though. Happened after getting oil change filter change and tires rotated shop said that was a coincidence. Was told it was instrument cluster changed that and same problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The P1212 is for the ABS/TCS Communication Line. For some reason the ECM lost communication with the ABS control module. You should try disconnecting the ABS control module and reconnected back. Sometimes poor connection will trigger the code.

To disconnect the ABS module, just light the connector tab (marked red on the image below)

it turns out it was a bad connection with the ground to the main wiring harness removed the ground sanded on it put it back and it works fine now if anyone else has this problem try that first. it is bolted to the right fender up by the abs module

I have a 2006 nissan xterra I was driving home everything was running great then stopped at a stop sign and when I started to accelerate the xterra would not go. I had to put the accelerator to the floor when it finally got to moving and I got to 30 mph the xterra worked as it should. Not I get code u1000 is there any suggestions as to what the problem is? Two weeks prior I had the transmission fluid and filter changed.

I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima. Car worked fine at noon. Parked the car, left, came back 30 minutes later and the car wouldn't start. Battery, Abs, Brake, and Slip lights are on. Also, the engine fan is always on while in the ignition is in the on position. Used a Code reader and found U1000 and no other code. Car was recently PM'd, I cleaned the batteries, tightened down ground terminals, checked fuses with no luck finding anything. I reset the code and now my car won't even turn over anymore. Now I think my battery is dead. Will replacing the battery do anything? I'm trying to avoid shops but I called the closest Nissan dealership and they say it would cost me around 1,300 for the ECU and labor, and that's if it's even the ECU. Anyone think they can give me a clue as what to do next?

Replacing the car battery should definitely be your first step. Once the battery is OK, clear all the codes and try to start again.

I have a 2007 350z and I recently had some problems with it. No changes were made to the car, out of no where it lost power and the check engine light, slip, and vdc lights came on. I took it to a mechanic and he didn't exactly know how to go about fixing it. u1000, p0507 & p0643 codes popped up. My mechanic says he believes the main culprit is the u1000 problem since he didn't see a problem with the throttle body position sensor or camshaft position sensor.

More about how the car behaves: It has a hard time staying on unless some throttle is applied, where it will hesitantly turns on. The car does move, but it wont pass 1300ish rpms, and wont go above 13-15 mph. How do I go about fixing this without having to pay someone a ridiculous amount of money.

Start by clearing the codes and tested. Also, clean and secure battery terminal and all the engine harness grounds in the engine compartment that you can see. Sounds like at some point there was a communication lost between the Engine Control Module (ECM) and another component, sometimes that is caused by poor harness grounds.

I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier SE. I was driving, truck was acting just fine when when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the 4x4 light came on as well. I pulled up to a parking lot not to longer after the lights came on. I shut the car off and it simply would not start again. I turned the 4x4 on and off thinking that that would help but nothing. The radio and lights come on but when turn the the ignition all the way the car wont start. I tested the truck myself and the u1000 code came up. Any thoughts?

The U1000 code means that at some point the Engine Control Module (ECM) lost communication to another control unit. You could start by cleaning the battery terminals and clearing the code. If the problem persist you may have to check for other problems. The U1000 code is the result of the problem, but is not causing the problem.

i just had a viper alarm installed in my 2006 altima and the service engine light came on, when they check it the code u1000 came up. They said it was normal and cleared the code, the engine service light hasnt come back on again what do you think?

The U1000 code means at at some point there was an interruption of communication between the control units. The installers probably didn't disconnect the car battery during the alarm installation. It should be OK now that they cleared the code, but if the code comes back, then one of the control unit is not properly connected.

The code u1000 came up one day so we used a cbd2 scanner and temporarily cleared the code and we didn't have any problems until just recently when the code p1065 came up for the battery harness. Yes. The most common cause of the U1000 code is battery ground.

I have a 2010 Nissan Maxima and I was just leaving to get on the highway and after about 2 or 3 miles driving I noticed I couldn't accelerate at all. I pulled over to the shoulder and turned off the engine and started it back up. Everything started up fine and I didn't get a check engine light or anything. If the car is in park I can give it some gas and the RPMs rev up pretty high with little pressure. If I put it in Drive or Reverse the RPMs don't go above 2K. I got it towed back to my mother's house and ran a test scan on it and it came up with only the U1000 error. I recently had a oil change and got a new battery installed about 3 weeks ago. The + battery terminal already has some corrosion on it. Could this be a bad grounding on the battery or on the transmission?

Yes, bad ground could definitely cause the problem. Start by cleaning the battery terminals and clearing the code.

U1000/U1000/U1000 WHAT DOES THAT MEAN

The U1000 code means that at some your Murano's control units (computers) lost communications with each other. There are several reasons why the control units will lose communication; common problems are low battery charge, loose battery terminals, poor electrical ground connection. There is factory service bulletin with more information about the poor electrical grounds. See "Tech Notes" above.

I have some questions I have a at home ecu scanner for my car and I used two different ones I have one saying that there is a cummcation error between tester and ecu .and one saying nothing and it's a obd 2 . I am wondering if there is a problem with a commcation chip in my ecu to make me think that my ecu is not working no more and that is why I can't get a read off . and if I replace the whole ecu will it work better . I am asking cuz I went to the 24/7 kiosk thing in my state for emmissions test and my scanner was working before I did it and then I did the emmissions thing with there device and that machine was not working so I tested my car again? with my scanner and now I can not get no read off from my ecu to my scanner but I could before . so I am wondering if the emmissions did the same thing to other people but they don't know it .

So I have a Nissan Maxima 2004 it has the u1000 code the Problem was the ground that goes from transmission to chassis to chassi problem was the ground that goes from transmission to chassis to Battery I fix the short but the u1000 code is still there And the transmission run slow forward what rides normal backwards

Try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes to reset all the system, but if the code comes back, then there must be another problem.

What model and year is your vehicle? did you use an used or rebuild transmission? have you reprogram the new transmission to the Engine Control Module (ECM)?

Can you list the other codes you have? I doubt the problems related to the U1000 code will cause a no-start situation.

All those codes are for the transmission, but neither one will stop the engine to start. Try clearing all the codes and check what code comes back first. Otherwise you may have to have a transmission shop check the transmission.

I have a frontier 07 the ignition immobilizer module was damaged truck wouldn't start bought a new one from Nissan replaced it started up after a little hesitation everything is working except my heat and service engine soon light is on when I run a obd it didn't read vin number throws the codes u1000,p0443,and u1000, someone said to reset by unhooking battery terminals put together n wait 15 mins? would this fix the u1000 code?

The U1000 code means that at some point the Engine Control Module (ECM) lost communication with one or more control modules. If the ECM only lost communication with the immobilizer module because it was damaged, then disconnecting the car battery will clear the code. If there are more communication problems, then the code will come back.
