    I have a Nissan altima 2006.
    What happened was I realized I didnt have my cap in place where I put my anti freez in. So I added anti freez then drove my car almost a half a mile and it started to over heat and smoke.     The problem were having on the car is the code is popping up as P1217. We put coolent in the car, cooled down for a little bit and then started overheating again. This time around (within 4 hours) we opened up the car to see if the coolent was getting to the engine. The tubes where extremely dry. Now the radiator fan wont turn on. Please help, I just got the car back up and running from the last time it broke. (neutral safety switch went out)

  • My Maxima was running on a hot day in a parking lot (scene of an accident - had to wait for police/paramedics) with the air conditioning on for several hours. When I left, the check engine light came on and started run oddly. Towed it home, hooked it up to computer and pulled this code. Checked coolant tank and it looked mostly empty. Filled it with coolant, restarted and cleared code with computer. Turned car back on and off and the check engine light is no longer on. My concern is this code doesn't mention low coolant as a possible issue. There seems to be a different code for that.

    I have places to go, but am afraid once I drive it and it heats up, it's going to happen again.

    I just lost my husband and he handled all this for me.

    Any advice?

  • Why was the coolant low? something must be leaking. If there are no leaks and the coolant level is OK, then you have a faulty thermostat.

  • I don't know why it was low. drive very little. Work from home and it's parked in the garage. No fluid on the garage floor. My husband took care of my oil changes, maintenance etc. He passed away 2 weeks ago and isn't here to help. This sounds morbid, but I need to pick up his ashes from the funeral home. It's an hour drive each way. I will check my coolant level again to see if it's still full.

    If it is a faulty thermostat, is it safe to drive my car or will it breakdown again?

    All the codes you have are for different systems of your vehicle. If you do not have any other symptoms, then I suggest clearing all the codes and checking what codes come back first.

  • I apologize. I should have re read before posting. I left out the beginning. So yeah I was just driving on a city road and it started to noticeably lose speed/power pressing the gas pedal. So I looked at the temperature gauge & the needle was almost center of the “H” so I pulled over and added water to the coolant, coasted the rest of the way home which was only 2 minutes away. I pulled over a few times in between just out of concern I would blow it up. Right as I pulled in it jerked twice and that’s when the engine light appeared. Initially made it home and the next day i drove to the mailbox and back curious about the temperature & after it was running roughly 10 min it didn’t seem to be rising any more than normal so I turned it off and still haven’t messed with it any further.
