P0972 - Shift Solenoid 'A' Control Circuit Range/Performance
P0972 Possible Causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty Shift solenoid 'A' valve
- Shift solenoid 'A' valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 'A' valve circuit is open or shorted
How do I fix code P0972?Check the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins.
Cost of diagnosing the P0972 code
Labor: 1.0The cost of diagnosing the P0972 code is 1.0 hour of labor. The auto repair labor rates vary widely across the country, and even within the same city. Most auto repairs shops charge between $75 and $150 per hour.
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Transmission will not shift gears
P0972 MeaningA/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C is used for clutch pressure control. A spool in A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C pushes the valve according to the duty cycle that is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (The hydraulic pressure is proportional to the current). The PCM measures the current flowing through A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C and uses feedback control to compensate for the difference between the actual current and the commanded one. If the measured current for the PCM output duty cycle is not within a specified range (circuit short or open), the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
