I'v been having a problem with my 2000 nissan maxima, the transmission been acting up ya'll, everytime i drive my car the transmission is not changing properly i got stuck for 15m driving on speed of 20 mpr an after that everything goes back to normal, i even hear some wierd stuff coming out from my car transmission some knocking sounds something like that, and today the engine service pop up, so i took my car to the mechanic which they told me i have a problem with the torque converter the code is p0744.
My question is do i have to replace the whole transmission or do i have to fix the problem an how much it costs me if im goin to replace or fix the problem.

First thing I recommend to do is having a transmission specialist inspect your Maxima. From what you describe sounds like the transmission needs to be rebuilt. The cost depends on the shop, but could range from $1500 to $2000

What year is your Versa? There is a factory service bulletin for some Versa. The factory recommends to replace the transmission valve body to repair the problem.

You mean clear the code? yes just disconnect the car battery for about 30 min. to reset the code.

You have to check with your local dealer if you Altima is still under warranty. It depends how many miles and the type of transmission. If you have a CVT transmission you may still have warranty.

It's an internal transmission problem, but some test needs to be done to properly diagnose the problem. Your Rogue should still be under factory warranty, 5 years / 60,000 miles.

If you have no driveability problems, then yes you can drive for 150 miles.

The torque solenoid converter is par of the solenoid pack. The solenoid pack is attached the transmission valve body and the valve body is inside the transmission

As far as I know only the dealer have the solenoids, I haven't see any aftermarket solenoids.

Hi I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder with 196,000 miles a light was on check engine , I did run the car with this on for about two weeks and the light still was on , I dis changed the transmission fluid ,,service..I drive for another week and the light is gone, i did checked the light with a scanner and did found a code P0744 Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid-circuit - intermittent / Wiring poor connection TCC solenoid ECM/PCM/TCM , but the ligth is already gone on the board after the transmission service , Do I need to still takeit to the mechanic ? thanks

If the engine light is not ON and you have no shifting problems, then just clear the code. No need to take it to the mechanic, changing the fluid may have fixed the problem.

I have a 2002 Xterra 4wd with the P0744 code. I drained the pan and checked the resistance on all of the solenoids on valve body and they were good according to repair manual, I ran 12 volts through them and heard them moving inside, replaced filter and fluid and added lucas oil additive. Didn't fix my problem. In drive, it won't shift into third or fourth and slips out of second when I don't accelerate slowly, but shifts perfectly fine when I manually have it in second. All of this happened after I cleaned the throttle body, replaced the TPS, and had the dealership recalibrate it. My transmission was perfectly fine before I messed with the throttle body. Also, when I dropped the transmission pan, the fluid was dirty and smelled burnt and the magnet had a magnetic sludge on it.

The fluid color and smell, and the debris on pan, is somewhat normal for the age of your Xterra.
Did the problem started after the dealer adjusted the TPS?

The torque converter clutch solenoid it's probably failing at times. Since you have to remove the valve body to replace the solenoid, you should consider replacing the entire valve body. With time solenoids and springs can get weak and passages inside the valve body can get clogged.

Hey. My wifes car was towed because our new apartment forgot to give us permits (Thursday night). They call the tow and have our car release...we pick it up Friday afternoon. By Saturday morning engine light is on with code of P0744. Is there any possibility this damage was created via the tow company. Cam it be proven?

What model an year is your Nissan? are there any driveability problems? you should try erasing the code first.

Battery in my xterra 2007 died, after getting it jump started the check engine light was on and the car wont pick first gear anymore, appears to start moving on 2nd gear now, rpm goes up to 2000 before the car starts moving, when shifting from drive to neutral you can feel the 1st gear kick in for a fraction of a second, reverse works fine. Getting codes P0700 & P0744, any advice?

Have you try clearing the code? how is the transmission fluid level and condition? when was the last time you change the fluid? Jumping the car battery shouldn't be related to the those codes.

I thought the codes would be cleared after getting them, went to autozone for that. Fluid looks good, clear pinkish, level good, but I'm sure it needs change, I havent done it since getting the car 5 years ago. Never had transmission trouble and this started right after the jump start. I drove 5 blocks to a gas station and there I had trouble starting the car again because of a loose terminal on the positive side, after tightening the car started but no more first gear and check engine light on.

Try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes to clear all the codes and reset the system. When you reconnect the battery, make sure the terminals are clean and tight.

System reset, check engine light went out. "O/D Off" light is on all the time, still no first gear.

When the O/D Off light is ON, it means that there is a problem with the transmission.

I'm not sure why jump start the battery trigger the code, could be just coincidence. I have seen on the Nissan Titan that the valve body fails after changing the car battery or jump start, but never seen that problem on the Frontier.

Did you had the Ignition ON when the jumper was connected?

The first thing you need to do is to check the transmission fluid level and condition. If the fluid is OK, you may have to replace the transmission solenoids.

Interesting, this is a problem with way too many Nissans and they should own up to a faulty design or defect and do a recall. I just had the same thing happen. My 2005 Xterra I bought new, only has 62000 miles. The battery was down so I charged it, not jumped, and when I started it the O/D light was on. Now it won't shift and according to the Nissan dealer the TCM and valve body need replaced. $1600.and they said that may not fix the problem.

I suggest getting a second opinion from a transmission shop.

Finally got the car to a shop and they found water in the transmission. Apparently there's a known issue with the lines breaking going through the radiator that result in destroyed transmission. Another defect Nissan won't admit to. Google "the milkshake of dead" and learn to stay away from Nissan. Hopefully your transmission is still good and you're still on time to change to the after market radiator to prevent this issue. Best of luck

I had my transmission checked after some background checking on the internet. They told me that the transmission needed to be replaced. Needless to say I can't afford $4k on it. The code he was getting was the po744 A/T TCC function. Was hoping it was much simpler that the answer I got.

If the fluid is OK, thne the problem is more than likely the torque converter clutch solenoid valve. Unfortunately for your model year, you may not be able to find the valve itself, you may have to replace the entire transmission valve body.

I have a 2014 Juke (77,000 miles) and had my first issue two months ago when car would not accelerate when gas pedal pressed. Search several forums and read that it was an anomaly and if you turn off engine and let it sit for a couple of minutes, the issue goes away. Did that and just two weeks ago, same thing happened. Took to shop and now have P0744 code and P0746 codes. $5000.00 repair. No other drivability issues. Should a car this new have this kind of issue and is that price normal?

It's not normal, but thing happen. There are some test that needs to be done to determine exactly what problem is, but the problem is more than likely the transmission valve body. The price they give you was probably for the the transmission assembly, replacing the valve body should be way less than that. At this point my only recommendation is to get a second opinion from a transmission shop.

Probably not the transmission assembly, but the transmission valve body. There is a factory service bulletin for your 2008 Altima, and for the P0744 and P0710 codes, the bulletin recommends replacing the valve body.

I can tell you what's wrong. Really sounds like the output speed sensor. I can almost bet ya that's what's wrong with it. I had a Hyundai elantra do that same thing and it was the speed sensor output not input. This should fix your problem the sensor has a short and after awhile it messes up you can shut vehicle off 15 mins and runs like a new one once started again. It needs an output speed sensor not very expensive and easy to change.

Hey so I got the P0744 code when doing a diagnostics test. I was diving and my 2012 Maxima and it started to sound like a Toy RC. I got to the light and came to a full stop. When the light turned green I stepped on the gas. Car did not move. I turned the car off then back on threw it into gear and stepped on the gas and it crept out of the lane. I made it to the Jiffy lube across the street.

What do I need to buy?

I'm not a fan of transmission flushes, it may help fix the problem or make the things worst. I recommend just try with the transmission fluid exchange and not a flush. A new transmission is around $2500, but you may able to get a used or rebuilt one for less.

How is the transmission fluid level and condition? when was the last time you change the fluid? you could start by changing the fluid.

I got an issue with my Nissan xterra 2009 when I turn on the engine then I put A/T on D the car doesn't move I have to put more power on the accelerator pedal then it will move slowly after that the car will be back to normal

Okay, so I have an 06 pathfinder, it was having issues staying in gear so I checked the fluid and it was way overrfilled, drained some but now it's burning off fluid, got more to do an exchange, however my question is about something I encountered earlier. The tranmission just completely disengaged and wouldn't shift into any gear, i shut the car off and restarted it the transmission worked perfectly fine, then again after a while the o/d light flickered on and off followed by my dash gear indicator going away. Could this be an electrical issue as well as fluid?

It could very well be the transmission fluid. I recommend servicing the transmission fluid and make sure it has the correct amount. After changing the fluid, clear the code and drive. If the code comeback, then, unfortunately, it may require a new transmission valve body or transmission rebuilt.

Hello I have 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5L that doesn’t want to get out of 1st gear it just revs high rpms at about 15mph to 20mph and revs higher and high all the way up to 40mph but does go faster then that it’s been have performance issues since I purchased it since did some work on it change now I’m have these issues I scanned it and came up with these code c1104 , p0744 , p0826 , p1701 , p1778 , p0868 , p1715 since then I have replace the stepper motor on the valve body the cvt fluid and transmission speed sensor and I’m looking into change the transmission input sensor

Hello, I have a 2001 maxima
Transmission jatco model RE4F04B
Around 202k miles it got p0744
Shifting very bad.

I noticed the fluid very dirty.
So I did a slow ATF flush
Doing 3 drain and fills with few thousand miles between each.
ATF used , valvoline maxlife full synthetic
I also used Lucus transmission fix stop slips on first 2 drain and fills. And seafoam transtune just before the 3rd drain and fill. It helped clean up stuff and you could feel the difference. On last drain and fill I used only transmission fluid and later. Added LUCUS again. (I could feel that it needed it)
Maybe some valve or solenoid is leaking/sticking and “hammering”

P0744 still comes up but not as much after LUCUS and seafoam after the 3rd drain and fill ( ATF Flush ). It also drives and shifts 95% better than when this first started. I was able to get it to pass state emissions test. Barely on Retest . Looks like I have O2 B2S2 starting to go (p0160)

My question is do you think changing the shift solenoids block would resolve the issue p0744
(Nissan part #31940-85X01
or 31940-85X0B)

Or should I be concerned that torque converter or entire valve body needs replacement also?

Unfortunately, due to the age and mileage of your Maxima, it's unlikely that changing just the shift solenoids will take care of the problem. According to a national database of repairs for 2001 Maxima with over 150K miles, the most likely cause of the problem is the torque converter, followed by the valve body.

The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is the most probable cause of the problem, which is part of the transmission valve body. The most common repair is to replace the transmission valve body.
