My mark lt is doing the same....just replaced camshafts and sensors and still shakes really bad after i run it for a while it also throws the same codes over and over again I'm not sure what to do anymore..... Iv'e seen that sometimes when you pull the p0340 code it's sometimes not your camshaft sensor at all. At least with the mustangs it is usually your alternator altogether. Be sure to check your alternator as well as your camshaft sensor.

When cranking the engine does the tacometer move, if not your crankshaft senor connection may be lose or disconnected. Ford has a TSB about P0340 error code on the web. stating that it could be an alternator over charging A/C current

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any bulletins or recalls.
Other items that I have seen that could also cause the P0340 are the following:
- Bad spark plugs
- Spark plugs wires
- StarterThose are not very common, but if you haven't replace the spark plugs and wires lately, you could start with that. Make sure you use factory parts.

2007 ford escape .V6 this motor as one cam senser. I replaced senser and small 2 pin plug .i soldiered wire and put heat shrink .the code came back in one short drive . but it now comes and goes .im refering to the code. The po 340 code.where should i look next. Engine seems to run ok.

Unfortunately other than the Camshaft Position Sensor I have not seen any other component triggering the P0340 code. I've checked a national database of repairs for your model year, and other that the Camshaft Position Sensor, the Crankshaft Position Sensor was replaced to fix the problem.

I checked a national database of repairs for your model year, and other than the sensor there are no other components setting the code. There are a couple of instance where the problem was the sensor connector. My only advice is to check the sensor connector, and if the connector looks good, then you have to check the wires from the sensor to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Do no replace any other parts before checking the wire. Since you mention that you pump the fuel, make sure you have a good fuel pressure.

car is jerking lack of power , run better with gas pedal down seems like pedal is hard to push . Changed crankshaft position sensor at first it was better . also sayes better after warms up and some days not has bad.

Alternator ripple on a new vehicle (1995 Ford Escort, covered under warranty) caused the exact signs that you are experiencing (lean surging/bucking under light acceleration, then disappears upon heavy acceleration).

That’s a good point and something a lot of people overlook. Electrical noise or excessive AC ripple from a weak alternator or bad diode can definitely cause issues with the cam sensor signal. On these older Fords, the PCM relies on a clean signal, and any interference can trigger a P0340 or cause drivability problems like light acceleration bucking.
It’s worth checking the alternator output with a scope or at least a multimeter on AC voltage. If you see ripple over about 0.3 volts AC, the alternator may be the real cause. Replacing or repairing it can clear up the problem without touching the cam sensor.

I have a 2008 f150 5.4 Triton. when it warmed up it starts to knock and want to stall, i step on the gas peddle and it goes away for a bit. I was told that if i change the oil to 10w 30, that it will go away cause it was over heating. I changed the oil and it worked for about two yrs, it did have a little knocking but nothing to bad until now. I did not get a check engine light on. I put my code reader on and it gave me the code P0340

You may have two different problems, the knocking noise and the P0340 code.
For the P0340 code the most likely cause is the Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 (Right side of the engine of your 2008 F150 5.4)

The Camshaft Position Sensors are by far the most frequent problem for the P0340 code on the 2009 Mustang, followed by the alternator and ignition coils. I checked a national database of repairs for your model year, and I found a few cases where the problem was a dirty throttle plate, and the other one was just an oil change.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have replaced both camshaft position sensors. I had the alternator checked at a local parts store and they said it was good. I wonder if I need to replace the crankshaft sensor? I read that this could also cause the problem. I haven't checked the starter yet but No other symptoms besides the check engine light.

I Have a 2005 Ford F-250 super duty, i replaced the sensor i also did an oil change because the truck had been sitting 9 months, i am getting this code after clearing it twice. I will be checking on how to fix it myself before i take it to the dealership or my mechanic. Every where i look i cant seem to find information on the f-250 super duty.

Is the engine running rough? If it is, then you may have a bad ignition coil, which will also set the P0340 code.
If the engine is not running rough, the camshaft position sensor is by far the most common problem, but there is a factory service bulletin that suggests the alternator could set the P0340 on F250 with 5.4L engine. I recommend checking if the alternator is charging correctly.
For your vehicle the Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 (P0340 code) is the Right Side of the engine (Passenger Side), it looks like you replaced the correct one.

I have an 05 ford explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC K-flex, was driving along running perfect then suddenly died, managed to get it running but had to use one foot on the gas and one on the break to get back home, scanner shower P0340, if running as long as rap up the rpm its fine but won't idle both cam and crank sensor tests good, however engine running scan I receive multiple TDC's e.g. P0340, P2198, P1101,P1703,P1780,, P2196, P2271,P0121 (though running through my dealer manual tests for the cam sensor (VR type) it fails part D29 test, only the return signal (-) shows above 10k ohm, the rest nill,... all other voltage, continuance, and resistance tests pass on the sensor and between the CPM and PCM connectors,.. I'm thinking the short is in the PCM itself (?) (battery and alternator have been tested) Would this be a correct assumption based on this info?

I doubt there is a short in the PCM, it's possible, but not likely. In most cases you wouldn't be able to start the engine with a short in the PCM.
The P0340 for the camshaft position sensor can sometimes be triggered when the engine stalls, but it's not necessarily the cause of the problem.
Most of the codes you got are related to the Oxygen sensor, which shouldn't cause the engine to stall.
The only code that I think could cause the symptoms you describe is the is the P1101 for the MAF.
I suggest starting by checking the air filter box and MAF. Make sure there is no debris obstructing the air flow and clear all the codes to check what codes come back first.

I know what the codes are but multiple codes being thrown at the same time when running the key on engine running scan , it won't stay running long enough to pull up live data streams or graphs on anything at an idle, as its already hard to get it started and it will quickly die (as I stated it was running perfect going down the road then just died and now wont stay running . When however, I do manage to start it it wont stay running unless I throttle it up past 2500 rpm, then it smooths out. I have cleared the codes several times and the key on engine off scan only shows the P0340. on running the key on engine running scan is when all the other codes are set on that particular scan mode, after a full charge and battery being tested, I will be checking to see if their is a parasitic draw on the battery over the past couple days, as mentioned I have a dealership manual and dealership wiring manual , checking the recommended tests for the Cam sensor circuit would indicate there is a short, ( manual states connector signal and return wire to battery (-) and between them are resistances are above 10k oms if yes repair/replace the PCM,.. if no repair the short so I only get a 12k ohm reading from the return signal wire and nothing from the other test connections) but seems strange a short would be sudden without an intermittent issue prior to failure, this is whats perplexing me ,..

Even if the engine runs fine, the P0340 shouldn’t be ignored. On those Mustangs, this code usually points to a camshaft position sensor or the wiring to it. A failing sensor can still send a weak or intermittent signal that eventually causes drivability issues or hard starting.
First step is to inspect the connector and wiring for corrosion or loose pins. If everything looks clean and tight, replacing the sensor is a common and relatively inexpensive fix. If the code comes back after that, the next step would be to check for power, ground, and signal with a multimeter or scope to rule out wiring or PCM issues.
Even though you don’t feel symptoms now, the car relies on that signal for timing—better to fix it before it turns into a bigger problem.
