  • Looking for suggestions: I've got an 02 Nissan Maxima that began with a P1168 code for the MAF. I've cleaned the MAF and checked/tested it with a volt/ohm meter as best I know how. I'm seeing around 1.4V at idle and see it go up to around 3.0V when revving the engine so I think the MAF is fine. I tested for intake air leaks by spraying carb cleaner on everything I could think of being suspect and found no change in idle at all. I just swapped out the Bank 2 Sensor 1 O2 sensor thinking that might be causing the issue. Not sure if the sensor I put in is good or not.....just testing to see what happened. A short test drive brought up the latest P0174 code but not the P1168. Any other suggestions other than replacing the O2 sensor? Thanks.

  • The MAF and vacuum leaks are the most common causes for P0174 code, but for the P1168 code, you more than likely have to replace the O2 sensor.
    Did you clear the "Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control" after swapping the sensor? if you didn't thats why you probably got a different code.
    After you replace the O2 sensor, make sure you clear the "Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control"

  • Thanks. I wasn't aware of that procedure. I'll follow it and give it a shot. If all else fails then I think I'll replace both of my upstream O2 sensors. I think I had replaced both bank 1 and bank 2 upstream sensors with universal fit replacements a few years ago. I never trusted them to begin with. I think I'll go with better quality OE fit model O2 sensors this time. Once again, thanks for your quick response and assistance!

  • I have an 09 maxima. Had both catalytic converters replaced along with MAF sensor and o2 sensor. Code p1074 is still showing. Had vehicle smoke tested for any air leaks which there were none and now am confused as to what the real problem is. Any suggestions or comments?

  • The P0174 code means that there is more air than fuel during the engine combustion. The MAF and O2 Sensors are the most common solutions for the P0174, but the next step is to find why there is more air than fuel. Either the fuel injectors are clogged, or somehow more air than what is required is entering the engine. There are a couple of incidents where the problem was the PCV valve. I recommend using fuel injector cleaner, along with high octane gas and if possible changing the PCV valve.
