Neither the knock sensor or the Intake Temperature Sensor will cause the engine to run rich (rich enough mixture to be noticeable), but there must be something else causing the random misfire. My guess is that one or more of the ignition coils is not working properly, causing the spark plugs to fouled and the rich mixture.
If you clear the codes, what code comes back first? -
I haven't tried clearing them and testing it. I don't know when the light comes on, as my SES light bulb is blown. For a long time, didn't even know I had a light that was on. It could very well just be the coil pack. One day, my car wasn't starting so I took all the coil packs out, knowing it was probably just flooding. And sure enough, when I took the 3rd from the left out, Cyl 3 I'm guessing, a very visible vapor of gas come out of the top. Do you think I'd be safe just replacing them all, one at a time, or just the one in Cyl 3?
