  • Please take note... it is critical that the electric coolant pump B is not faulty as the ECU will shut down if it isn’t. My 2014 2.0 tdi passat recently cut out at traffic lights. Engine codes would not clear meaning the car could not be started. Found fuse number 16 in engine bay was blown and upon replacing it smoke came from coolant pump B (front of engine below alternator). Ordered new pump and after fitting all engine codes cleared and car started normally. The car had spent time at a VW specialist garage who advised me that the ECU was the suspect. I was told subsequently by a VW mechanic that he had seen this before and that the problem is difficult to diagnose as the pump doesn’t always show up as faulty when reading codes. Prior to this happening i was losing a very small amount of coolant, also now resolved, by replacing this pump.

  • I also faced exactly same issue in Skoda Octavia MkII. Skoda authorized service center ( Autobahn Skoda service center in Mumbai, India) had had identified this as faulty ECM !

    I was not quite convenienced.

    DIY I purchased the VCDS scanner and scanned the car. Based on its fault code I replaced the pump.. The issue got resolved. Skoda service center technician had did wrong diagnosis.
