My 2007 jeep 5.7 started accelerating on its own. I pressed hard on the brakes and the etc light can on. After tapping the accelerator pedal several times the light went out and the car started operating properly again. When I checked the dtc codes it showed P2299. It was a disturbing experience.

Was driving on a scenic mountain drive, going about 55-60mph with cruise control on. Running just fine. All of a sudden the cruise control shuts off. more specifically it no longer holding the speed. it was still active, verified by the light on the dash. it was almost as if I just tapped the brake pedal ever so slightly. I honestly thought nothing of it, because I was coming up on slower traffic at that moment anyway.
I still kept a eagle eye on the dash to see if any lights pop up. As I'm now giving it more throttle to go up hill I saw the lightning bolt symbol flash, the check engine symbol illuminate and the throttle was not responding to my foot pressure. it just kind of slowly idled down. This only lasted a couple milliseconds, then came right back to normal. It was enough to get my attention. I was able to drive back home (1hr. 20min) without any further issue. scanned the codes and got P2299 I suspect a bad brake light switch because I also had a code that comes up when the ECU sees that the brake and the gas pedal are depressed simultaneously. I can assure you I did not do. I will try to update what I find.
