Code P2136 Description

The P2136 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) refers to an issue with the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'A'/'C' Voltage Correlation. This code typically indicates that there is a discrepancy between the voltage signals from the throttle position sensor (TPS) and the accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS), often resulting in erratic or incorrect throttle responses. The TPS and APPS are crucial components of the vehicle's electronic throttle control system, which regulates the amount of air entering the engine and ultimately controls its speed.

Common Causes of P2136

  1. Faulty throttle position sensor
  2. Malfunctioning accelerator pedal position sensor
  3. Wiring or connector issues in the sensor circuit
  4. Corrosion or contamination affecting sensor signals
  5. Problems with the electronic throttle control unit

Symptoms of P2136

  1. Hesitation or surging during acceleration
  2. Lack of power or reduced engine performance
  3. Stalling or difficulty starting the vehicle
  4. Unresponsive throttle or delayed response
  5. Vehicle entering limp mode

How to Fix P2136

  1. Begin by diagnosing the exact cause of the P2136 code using a diagnostic scanner to pinpoint the faulty sensor or wiring issue.
  2. Inspect the throttle position sensor and accelerator pedal position sensor for any signs of damage or malfunction. Replace any faulty sensors as needed.
  3. Check the wiring harness and connectors associated with the sensors for loose connections, corrosion, or damage. Repair or replace any damaged components.
  4. Clear the DTC from the vehicle's computer using the diagnostic scanner and perform a test drive to ensure that the issue has been resolved.
  5. If the problem persists, consider seeking professional help from a certified mechanic to further diagnose and address any underlying issues with the throttle control system.

Cost to Fix P2136

The typical repair costs for addressing a P2136 code can vary depending on the specific cause of the issue and the extent of repairs needed. Generally, replacing a faulty throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal position sensor can range from $100 to $300 per sensor, not including labor costs. Wiring repairs or connector replacements may incur additional expenses, potentially raising the total repair bill.

  • I got a mazda bongo diesel (drive by wire). It starts well but cant have a full rav. In fact its in limp home mode. Initially the two output voltages from the pedal sensor where low as indicated by a code reader. one had a minimum of 0,26v (at idling position) and a maximum of 2,69v (pedal on the floor). The engine check light would come on. The DPF light slashes constantly. I adjusted the pedal sensor so that I got 0,8v at idling and the engine check light went out but if I press the accelerator pedal down maximum the mil comes back and the pedal is disabled until I reset by disconnecting the battery. The engine was changed. The whole throttle was changed also and put a new pedal sensor. The VIN is SKF2T
