  • We have a 2006 ford escape v6 with P2077 code. We found a map sensor but unable to find a manifold tuning valve position sensor. Is it possible that this car doesn't have a tuning valve positions sensor and only a map sensor? If it does have the tuning valve position sensor where would it be on the engine? Thanks Tony

    • On the 2006 Escape V6 (3.0L Duratec), you're looking for the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) system, not the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor and the intake manifold tuning valve position sensor are two different components.

      Depending on the engine calibration, the position sensor is mounted as part of or very close to the IMRC actuator on the upper intake manifold. It isn't always serviced as a separate sensor. Before replacing anything, check that the IMRC linkage moves freely, the actuator isn't sticking, and the electrical connector is clean and fully seated. A broken linkage or a sticking intake runner is just as likely to set P2077 as a bad sensor.
