P1706 Nissan Code - Park and Neutral Position Switch

I want to know sensor, valve and solenoid location in vehicle.

What sensor, valve and solenoid and for what model and year??

my car is 2006 Nissan automatic shows fault P1706 it's a intermittent fault  what's the location of P/N switch thanks.

What model? it usually attached to the transmission, but we need to model to show you the location.

I have a 06 nissan titan le. And I'm wondering where the p/n switch is. And where I should look online to find directions to replace it. And where I should look for the replacement part itself. Any of the above would be much appreciated.

Please double check the code, there is no P1706 code on the 2006 Nissan Titan. For the 2006 Titan the "Park/Neutral Position" switch code is the P0705 and the switch is inside the transmission.

I have a 2005 nissan frontier I can't find the p1706 so I can change it out can u show me were its at its a manual transmission

For vehicles with automatic transmission the Park and Neutral position sensor is the inhibitor switch.

I changed my pnp switch on my nissan frontier 05, but the check engine light is still on and the same code is coming up? What should I do?

The next step is to check the wire "Orange" wire that is coming out from the PNP switch. It should have continuity to ground when your frontier is on "Park" or "Neutral"

I have a 2001 Nissan Altima gle and i got a different engine light code saying that the Neutral safety switch was bad so i bought a new one and had a mechanic change the part and now im getting this engine light code. when he first put the part in, the car was only staring in neutral and not in park. he adjusted it and the car start in both park and neutral but the reverse lights still dont come on and this engine light code is still on. Any ideas on what to do ?

my main concern is getting the reverse lights to work. the fuse is good and so are the bulbs so im not sure what could be the problem.

Was the reverse light working before you replace the switch? If the light was working, then more than likely the park and neutral position switch is still out of adjustment. Here are the adjustment instructions:

Start by checking the PNP switch connector, make sure the connector is fully connected to the switch. If the connector is OK and you still have the problem, you may have to replace the switch.

I have an engine code p1706, and when I shift to all gears it says the pnp is on. Just replaced shift cable 2005 Frontier automatic trans.

Why did you replaced the shift cable? any other symptoms or codes?
The switch is inside the transmission, so there is no way to adjusted or check it without removing the valve body.

The shift cable broke so I replaced it with a new factory cable from Nissan. After replacing, my car flicked codes p1706 and p0615. When the codes came up the shifter got tight again after adjusting it to make it smoother in shifting. All I did was change the shift cable, what gives?

You can't adjust the switch, but you can adjust the cable. Here are the instructions from the service manual:

For models with "Manual (standard) Transmission" the P1706 is for the Neutral Position Switch. Unfortunately I have no images for the neutral position switch location.

Unfortunately, there are many things that could cause the engine to shut off while driving.

For your vehicle with standard transmission (manual transmission) the problem is the neutral position switch.

How can I bypass the neutral safety switch in my 2000 Nissan primera p144 (Automatic transmission)? It is in a remote area where I can't call a tow.

Why do you want to by pass the switch?

It's a switch, you can just jump the two wires at the connector.

It has no crank problem and I know the neutral safety switch is fualty. So I need turn it on and get it to nearest mechanic.

I don't have the wire diagram for the Primera, but the Infiniti G20 should be the same. You need to jump the "Green/Orange" (Pin 1) wire with the "Black" (Pin 2). Here is the wire diagram of the G20, I hope that helps.

The Park & Neutral Position Sensor on the 2005 Nissan Xterra is part of the transmission Valve Body, and the Valve Body is inside the transmission.

Hi . . . My son's car . . Nissan Almera 1.5 2006 . . . Had the 'P1706' error intermittently popping up.
Strange error code message for a manual gearbox . .!!?? . . However, got stuck in and found out there is a 'Neutral Position Switch' on the gearbox . . (Very similar to the 'Reversing Switch', that turns on the reversing lights . . ) This N.P.Switch is situated on the inner side of the gearbox . . near to the Bell Housing/Clutch housing. On removing the switch, I found that the plunger had been worn flat!!
On replacing it . . (at a cost of only £23 . . ) . . The error was resolved. . . Happy days . . ;-)
NOTE: Ensure you order the correct part no. . . .!!

I have Nissan X trial 2003 manual transmission car. i made computer test for the Engine indication "turn on". the result found on the device is "P1706 P N POSITION SWITCH/CIRCUIT. automobile technician told me to replace the 4 ignition coils!!!.. but after i googling regarding the subject... i have confused!!!!

Unless you have other codes, the P1706 code is NOT for the ignition coils or has nothing to do with ignition coils, totally different problem.

Hi there! My Nissan Primera P12 (manual six gearbox) 2003 started to give this code p1706. Some years ago the engine, most of the clutch parts and the battery were changed. Symptoms are sometimes (not always) the rpm going too low (like 500rpm - just barely stays running) when engine is warm and outside temperature is minus Celsius. Rpm is normal when engine is cold (first 15 minutes of driving) or when outside temperature is above zero. When gearbox is in neutral position I can get a slight knocking sound from the gearbox if I lift the clutch quickly up. Doing the same slowly causes no extra sounds. Also this sound comes only with the neutral gear. Any other gear and clutch up position (car moving obviously) there is no extra sounds from the gearbox. Nissan mechanic has checked the neutral position switch and the battery and said that they were in OK condition. Two times the OBDII -codes have been nullified and the p1706 comes back after 1-2 hours drive.. ideas..? Thanks in advance!

1998 Nissan Frontier 5 speed manual transmission. After attempting a jump start (and accidentally connecting the wrong terminals, sparking and quickly removing), the Frontier now surges or jumps while trying to accelerate. (It is fine while shifting gears, but jumps while cruising.) Engine starts and idles fine. P1706 code came up. Is there a video or diagram about replacing the PNP on my Frontier?

A damaged Park/Neutral Switch will not cause the engine to surge or jump during acceleration. When the switch is bad, you may experience hard or no start, or not going into drive or park.
It's possible that you may have blown a fuse. I recommend checking all the fuses before replacing any parts.
