  • I have a 2012 Honda Civic EX-L 1.8L with this code, P16E2. The code never triggered the check engine light. Some have said its a comm error between the alternator and the battery. BUT, if you look on the negative terminal of one of these cars, there is a part that apparently monitors battery condition, load status, compensation, charging, etc. Everything makes sense now. I've replaced the alternator multiple times, the battery expired years ahead of its service life, there are obvious power surges, the battery reads at 12.5V WHILE RUNNING, until the headlights are kicked on and it boosts to 14-14.5V.     Sensor Assy., Battery (L) is paid for (70 something and some change) and en route to me from Honda. I will replace and let you all know if this resolved the issue. Wish me luck!

  • Well, it held a year...BUT THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED THE THIRD TIME. BATTERY REPLACED, ELD REPLACED, BATTERY SENSOR REPLACED, MULTIPLE ALTERNATORS. Nobody has had a definitive solution for this. I'm giving up and taking her to the dealership.
