  • I have a 2003 jeep vs overland edition. We bought it in sept. 2017. First problem was battery kept going dead. The battery was bought new by dealership. They charged it up. Brought it back and said nothing is wrong. About once a month I put a trickle charger on it when it starts turning over slow. My girlfriend drove to town a week ago. Everything was fine. Next morning I got in it & it smelled like wires burning. I was stunned! I turned the key over it started then quit. I tried 3 or 4 times. And have up I'm not a mechanic!!! Just hooked it up to an obd2 it read p1698th off for girl circuit malfunction (bank2) can anyone tell me what this means. Please help the dealer made us being 52 one hundred $ bills. To buy it no checks personal or cashier or bank card. Only cash. After we got the paper work for it the selling price said 2000.00$ when ask he said that way taxes wouldn't be so high. I feel like I just got bent over the hood of it without even a kiss!!! If anyone could help me to understand this i wouwould be eternally grateful. Any info will help thank you

  • Unfortunately without doing some test I can't help you much. Based on just the P1698, then the most likely cause for that code is the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), but since you have a burnt wire smell, I don't recommend replacing the PCM. Do not replace any components until you find out where the wire smell is coming from. Also make sure you check all the fuses.
