Code P1506 2002 Ford F150 Description

The P1506 code for a 2002 Ford F150 indicates an Idle Air Control Overspeed Error. The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is responsible for regulating the engine's idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the engine. When the engine is idling, the IAC valve adjusts to maintain a steady idle speed. An overspeed error occurs when the IAC valve is unable to properly control the idle speed, leading to the engine running at a higher speed than intended.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P1506 2002 Ford F150 OBDII Code

  • Hi my name is Patrick and I have a 2002 f150 with a 4.6. I got this P1506 code and I replaced the PCV valve and the factory supply line. both things where in bad shape. I thought I had it but the high idle came back. it is idling at 14 to 1500 in neutral . when I put into drive it idle drops to about 600. It did look like the line for the PCV valve was leaking and the PCV valve was sticking . I do have 262k 0n the motor and it runs great, anything else I can look at or test. Also I did not do the procedure to have the idle relearned that was mentioned drive 5 min with lights on and ac on. Is this the procedure used to relearn the idle?
