  • i changed the filter and it still stays on, wondering how long it will reset the code automatically, or how to erase the code?

  • What model and year is your Nissan? try disconnecting the car battery to clear the code.

  • I have a 2009 nissan Versa with a P1421 code were should i start to get rid of code

  • See "Tech Notes"

There is a factory service bulletin for the 2009 Nissan Versa, the bulletin recommends reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) to fix the problem.

You should start by having the dealer reprogramming the ECM for you.

  • Ditto

  • Hello, I just recently got this problem now and can not figure out what is wrong. I have a 2009 Nissan Cube. I have cleared the code once before in 2013 (November), and it has reappeared. Any suggestions on what I should look for or what to do? [Note: I don't think the weather can be a factor, it has got as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit last month and no Service Engine light has came up.]

  • There is factory service bulletin for the 2009-2010 CUBE. The bulletin suggest reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) to resolve the problem. See "Tech Notes" above.

  • I have a 2010 cube and this is the second time my 'service engine soon' light came on with this code. The first time I replaced the air filter and it hasnt come on in a year. Its back and I already replaced the air filter so its probably the ECM. when you say theres a 'factory service bulletin' does that mean its a recall of some sort? should I not be charged for this service? (I'm not trying to sound cheap but the nissan dealer nearest to me is super shady. They raked me over the coals for the last part I needed and I was without my cube for 23 days.)

  • A service bulletin is just information from the factory to help techs fix the vehicles. If there was a recall for this problem, then the repair could be cover under warranty. You may not need to replace the ECM, just reprogram the ECM with the latest software.

  • I have an 09 Nissan versa I just had an electronic start put on and now my check engine light is on. I had it checked and the code comes up as cold start control. Could this have anything to do with the electronic start?

  • Did the engine light came ON right after the installation? It shouldn't be related. You should have them check the installation just in case.

  • was just wondering if anyone can help?got a 2010 Nissan versa with 1.8 engine..showing p1421 code..i just changed alternator and next morning code /service engine soon light came on..checked gas cap ,air filter. no driveability issues.. disconnected battery for about 15 min,but code came on right away.. any suggestions??

  • The code has nothing to do with the alternator. I suggest to double check the all the connector you disconnect during the alternator installation.

  • Hi, I have a 2010 Nissan versa with 1.8 L engine. Recently I got the P1421 $07e8 code (manufacturer control). I have no idea where is issue is. The air filter was changed 6 months ago, could you please give some suggestion? Should I reprogram ECM? thank you

  • Try using high octane gas for a couple of weeks and if possible add a fuel additive. Also, make sure you check the filter and there is nothing blocking the air flow, even if you change the filter 6 months ago.

If after using high octane gas, checking the air filter and clearing the code, the codes still comes back, then the next step is to reprogram the ECM.

  • Thanks I just had the same issue. Same make and model.
