P1174 Chevrolet Code - Fuel Trim Cylinder Balance Bank 1

So that's what my '08 Uplander is coding. After my mechanic ran the tester on it, the check engine light went out. It's wet weather here; could that have something to do with the problem?

It's possible that the weather is affecting the fuel injectors. Try using high octane gas for a couple of weeks, and if possible, add a fuel additive to clean the fuel injectors.

That's what I was thinking: it only comes on when there are puddles, but stays on until it's reset. It is a flex-fuel vehicle, but I haven't put E-85 in it at all; don't know if the former owners (City of Cincinnati) did or not. I will try some mid-grade, thanks!

I am having the exact same issue and just replaced my starter last week because I was told that was the issue. Now my 08 flex-fule won't start at all. Need help!

Also, I'm in oregon and it's super wet here.

Have you tested the battery? Mine has a battery drain issue. Now I'm leaving it on a trickle charger overnight.

As for my check-engine light: I used some Sea Foam in a fresh half tank of 91 octane gasoline. I think the vehicle likes that mix! -- the light went out and has stayed out.

Not sure if it helps anyone but there was a plug that cam undone pluged it and it fired right up the plug was on the starterthat we just relpaced a week before.

Hi my 2012 Chevy Malibu's check engine light is on with a P1174 code. I tried Lucas fuel injectors cleaner and even replaced the fuel injectors, but the light is still on and it's the same code. Any idea what else it could be?

There are some test that needs to be done to determine what the problem is, but according to a national database of repairs on the 2012 Malibu, if you replace the fuel injectors, then the most likely cause of the problem is either the Oxygen Sensors or the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. You could start by cleaning the MAF to see if that makes any difference.

Can a P1174 code cause engine to lose power and therefore shut the car off? Car is a 2006 Chevy cobalt SS automatic and I have already gotten the ignition cylinder replaced (the recall associated with the car).

Unfortunately the P1174 code doesn't specified exactly what the problem is, but either of the components listed as possible cause (except for the oxygen sensor), could cause the engine to loose power and stall.

I have a chevrolet trailblazer 2009. Started seen the check engine light after 130,000 km. The car was otherwise ok, it was just the check engine light, but it was constantly bothering me. Scanned using a cheap bluetooth mini obd2 scanner through torque app. Got p1174 code and after reading the possible causes, decided to go with topping up the fuel tank with a high octane fuel. Did that and after driving some 50 ish kilometres, the light has thankfully gone off.

Had the same code popped up after some 400 km. Fuel is the same. Any suggestions? I can share the log if needed.

Try running the engine with high octane gas for a couple more weeks and if possible add a fuel additive to clean the injectors. If the problem persist, then you may have to replace the front (upstream) oxygen sensor.

Have driven more than 2000 km on high octane with STP complete fuel system cleaner. The error is still there. The LTFT never goes beyond 10 % with the car running and is around -1.8 when idle. O2 sensor is always sinusoidal. P?ease advise. Thanks

Probably is time to replace the sensor.

Hi I have been getting this error code on my 2006 Chevy HHR 2.4 Lt. and I read this blog a couple days back and tried putting high octane fuel and within 30 miles of putting the high octane fuel the check engine light goes off and when i put the low octane fuel it comes back on immediately. Do you think I should replace the oxygen sensors or do you think its something to do with the fuel injectors?? I have replaced one of the fuel injectors in the beginning of this year because i burnt my fuel injector when i used the fuel injector cleaner twice within a month (or that is what the mechanics at the dealership told me).

It's possible that senors may be failing, but try using high octane gas for a a couple of weeks. It's possible that there is carbon built up in the cylinders and the high octane gas should be able to clear that out. Also, if possible, clean the MAF and replace the air filter.

DIY guy here with an 08 silverado. my experience with this P1174 has shown that there are multiple probabilities with this particular code. Not just the few listed above. Over the past couple years I have experienced Multiple codes that go hand in hand with this. Had to replace the Throttle body cause the ETC and tps Both fried. ETC for those who dont know is Electronic throttle Control, Its attached to the throttle body. It controls the air fuel mix. The TPS motor opens and closes the butterfly which adjust air fuel ratios in the trottle body. So I purchased a new not aftermarket one. Now some vehicles you can replace the individual components, others you cant. so do your research. I had an upper engine cleaner run through it as well to clean out the injectors. and that still didnt resolve my issue' It turned out I had to replace my battery as well it was 9 years old and showed it had bad cells.. Dont ask me what this had to do with it. I have no clue. But when I did everything was fine; and Ya it wasnt cheap. But didnt cost half what a dealer would of charged. Yes I was experiencing multiple codes with this issue. Relating to injectors, ETC, TPS, and the 02 sensor. No I didnt have to replace the 02 sensor.
Cleaning the MAF sensor is a good idea. So is replacing the 02 sensor. sure running a higher octain is a option but most of us in this world cant afford the high prices at the pump. and after a few fill ups it turns out to cost more than just replacing the 02 sensor. SO if your getting just the P1174 Then replace the 02.
I will add this there are garages out ther who can run test on your vehicle at very reasonable rates. When Im really stumped by an issue I will schedule an appointment with a garage near me that only charges $75.00 for a complete diagnostic. They pinpoint the issue and then I do the repair. Use this option when I have a vapor leak cause those issues are very hard to detect. Unless you own a smoke machine.
You Diyrs know ya can shop on line and pick up parts at very reasonable prices. I usually go to rock auto and use their site to find part numbers then look on ebay and amazon to find the best deal.
