Code P1148 Nissan Description

The P1148 Nissan code refers to an issue with the Closed Loop Control Function in Bank 1 of the vehicle's engine. In a closed-loop system, the vehicle's computer (ECU) constantly monitors and adjusts the air-fuel mixture to optimize engine performance and emissions. Bank 1 typically refers to the side of the engine where cylinder 1 is located. When this code is triggered, it indicates that the closed-loop control function on Bank 1 is not operating within the expected parameters. This can lead to poor fuel efficiency, reduced engine performance, and increased emissions. If left unaddressed, it can potentially cause damage to the catalytic converter and other engine components.

  • I have an 06 Max 3.5, it's giving me 6 codes: P0031, P1148, P1168, P0037, P0057, P0051. It states their may be an open circuit or shorted circuit, where can I find this circuit? Any Ideas?...

  • Each code represent a component in your vehicle. Each component has a wires from the component itself to the Engine Control Module (ECM) and body grounds. The circuit includes the wire from the component to the ECM and ground, and the components internal wiring.

Since all the codes are circuit related codes, start by checking all the fuses. If the fuses are OK, clear all the codes and working with the first code that comes back.

  • Please read the information above. It means that you probably have a faulty Air Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 Bank 1 and that you have to replace the sensor to fix the problem.

  • I have 2003 Nissan 1.8 GXE. Recently I have replaced MAF sensor. However now I am getting P1148. My Mechanic is suggesting me to change the O2 sensors. He said there are 2 Oxygen sensors. Its better to replace both of them. And charging me 150$ each with labor and part.
Car drives good. Mileage is also good. Please suggest!

  • I agree. If one O2 sensor failed, the other one may fail soon.

  • What about $300 labor & Part?

  • $300 is a good price for parts and labor.

  • I have an Nissan se-r 2002 and I have a lot of codes , p0031 p1148 p0132 p0101p0103 p1102 p0183 p0463 p2127 p2128 p0113, can u help me with this codes , and my car got wet and ever since then my car hasn't been functioning well

  • Start by erasing all the code (with scanner or disconnecting the car battery) and then check what code comes back first. Make sure the battery terminal are fully connected and there are no exhaust and intakes leaks, Most all the codes you listed could be caused by intake leaks near the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

  • i have a 2003 with the same code p1148 but the car surges and jerks like if its running out of fuel but just installed fuel pump would that code cause that problem? or it would be a different problem

  • The P1148, P2a00, P0133 codes are for O2 sensor, but the O2 sensor should not cause the engine to run rough. The P0128 is for the thermostat, an stuck thermostat could cause the engine to run rough, but when is cold.

Have the engine overheated lately? sounds like you could have a blow head gasket. I recommend starting by performing a compression or leak down test.

  • No, the P1148 code is for the O2 sensor, but a bad O2 sensor should not cause the engine to surge. I recommend checking the fuel pump instillation.

  • Where is the o2s for a nissan murano 2004 the O2S S1B1 ?

  • The sensor is on the back of the engine. You have to access the sensor from underneath the vehicle.

  • We still get the same code which is P1148 on our 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5SE (V6). It says P1148 closed loop bank 1 even though we replaced all the A/F Ratio Sensors and O2 Sensors. What could still be the problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Start by checking if there are no exhaust leaks near the sensor. If no leaks are found, then perform the Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control Data. (Instructions here: https://www.nissanhelp.com/... ).

If the problem persist, then you may have have to reprogram the Engine Control module (ECM) with the latest program at the dealer.

  • Thank you very much for the help.

  • We did the Mixture Ratio Self-learning Control and the code P0102 didn't display in the scanner, just want to ask why? By the way, there's no exhaust leaks, o2 sensor fuse is okay and still P1148 and P0031 appears. I guess our last resort is to reprogram the ECM at the dealer. Thank you, we're learning a lot from your site.

  • My guess, that the P0102 did't display, was because you didn't run the engine enough time or didn't fully cycle the key (Turn the engine off. wait couple of second and restart), after the MAF was disconnected.

  • where would the censor be for P1148 code on a 2004 Sentra 1.8L? I am under the impression one is on the top of the engine and one on the bottom?

  • The P1148 code is for the Front Oxygen Sensor, which is on near the top of the engine.

  • I have a 2009 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder with the codes p1148 and p0725 this problem just started after getting my replacing the manifold convertor and two oxygen sensors. If I replaced the crank shaft position sensor and oxygen sensor will it fix the issue?

  • It's very possible. At least that's what the codes are suggest replacing.
