|What Does the P1093 BMW Code Mean?

On modern engines, the Fuel Trim is the adjustment performed by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to the fuel system to maintain a balanced and efficient air and fuel mixture ratio. Using the Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Oxygen Sensors (O2) measurements, the ECM calculates the correct amount of fuel to enter the combustion chamber by controlling the injector pulse.
More fuel can increase engine power, but will also increase fuel consumption and emissions; this is called a Rich Mixture. A Lean Mixture will reduce the engine power, fuel consumption and could increase emissions.
When the ECM fails to compensate the fuel due to above or below limits of air or fuel entering the engine (e.g., leaking intake hose, clogged air filter, leaking fuel injector, faulty fuel pump), the ECM will set a Rich or Lean Trim code.
