  • Ford front wheel drive Transmissions (PN 4F27E for Ford & FN4A-EL for Mazda) are made by Mazda. Most parts are interchangeable but some minor differences exist. Go to the Mazda board to get a complete rundown on P0762 as it applies to Ford automatics too. The problem is seldom a Solenoid.

  • Ford & Mazda label their solenoids differently, but they are in the same place & perform the same function because the valve paths are identical. The most often fault is a 3-4 clutch (direct clutch) piston leak. Because the same solenoid allows pressure to the reverse clutch & direct clutch when off, reverse will also give an error if it is stuck on. Voltage applied to this solenoid drains the pressure (turns it on) & disables both reverse & direct clutches.

  • Had the trans flushed & fluid replaced. A friend told me to add Lucas - something to help unstick the 3rd solenoid - I got the speed up to about 50. Still sounds odd & the wrench & engine light are still on. The mechanic said he turned them off. The shop told me to fix the 3rd solenoid it would cost $1,000.! Really? Now what? I don't have that kind of money to put onto a 2007 Fusion.

  • For $1000 you can replace or rebuilt the whole transmission. For the P0762 you may have to replace just the solenoid (Depending on how the rest of the transmission parts are). You should get a second opinion.
