Discuss the causes and fixes for P0717 Cadillac OBDII Code

  • I had the transmission rebuilt with new sensors installed. I get an intermittent p0717 code. It seems when I clear the code it runs fine then after a certain amount of miles it shifts hard and light comes back on. This car is a thorn in my side since I bought it in 2006. After 100,000 miles it becomes a continuous money pit. Im a mechanic DIY . I'm pretty good , but cant believe how things react on this car and how at times burried inside the vehicle making a 25 dollar part a 2000 dollar repair.

  • Let me check if I can find more information on our database. What model and year is your Cadillac?

  • Its a 2004 cadillac devile. I think the harness or connector comes off the drivers side cruise control switch. Not sure. Thank you.

  • Did they replaced all sensors?
The Transmission Input Shaft Speed Sensor and Transmission Speed Sensor are by far the most common problems for the P0717 code. Unfortunately, other than those two sensor I can't find anything else setting the code.

  • Thanks for responding. The transmission speed sensor ,,,, is that the same as the vehicle speed sensor located outside the transmission right side , or is it another sensor??? I know the shaft Speed Sensor was changed and that is internal. There is another sensor outside the transmission. Could that throw a p0717??? Thank you.
