Code P0706 Saturn Description

The P0706 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in a Saturn vehicle indicates an issue with the transmission range switch performance. Also known as the transmission range sensor or neutral safety switch, this component plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning of the transmission system. The transmission range switch is responsible for relaying information to the vehicle's engine control module (ECM) regarding the gear position selected by the driver (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, etc.). This information is essential for the ECM to adjust various parameters such as engine speed, fuel delivery, and ignition timing accordingly.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0706 Saturn OBDII Code

  • the 2000 satur, have an idea about how much it should cost?

  • Original symptom - 1997 Saturn SL2 - The OBDII was producing two errors a (P0705 & P0706) we adjusted the N.P.S.S to the contunuity spec in the manual and this cleared the (P0705) error, however the (P0706) error remains - It apears the error is duplicated (P0705) for normal trans operation and (P0706) for performance operation - Both errors indicate a problem with the N.P.S.S - One would "assume" if the adjustment cleared the (P0705)error then the (P0706)error would also be cleared - Well this is not the case! Furthermore I suspect "after driving 50 miles through the OBDII drive trace the Set Readiness would be set "NOT" looks like all errors have to be resolved in order for the early model OBDII to set readiness - Any feedback would be mostlikely helpful..
