P050A KIA Code - Cold Start Idle Air Control System Performance

2012 Kia soul with 71,000 miles is out of warranty for this error code. No idle issues, would like a reflash of ECM at no cost. SO I just keep clearing error.

2016 Kia Soul - driving it exactly 1 year (approx 13230 mi). Light came on. Read the code, made appt with dealer's svc ctr. While waiting for appt the light came off. Did not notice any difference in neither how the car runs nor how engine sounds at any point (cold, hot, during warmup). So canceled appt with dealer. When the light came on it was unusually cold for this location (Columbia, SC). When light came off it was normal temps (above freezing).

2016 kia soul, 50,000 miles same issue in cold weather and zero performance issues.

You could start by cleaning the throttle body and clearing the code. You could have a problem with the throttle body plate sticking during cold start.

Thanks, the light only comes on when it's cold outside and it shuts itself off when it warms up. I live in Texas so that's about every other day... Lol. I bought some throttle body cleaner and I have some brushes, I'll give it a shot.

2014 Kia Soul engine light came on in first 27 degree Fahrenheit. Light stays on now for 3 days. Car has less than 46,000 miles. P050A does not apply to my car as not a 2012 or 2013. Will check Gov. regulations on this one.

According to a national database of repairs, the most likely cause of the problem is the Throttle Body. You could start by just cleaning the throttle body. Make sure you disconnect the throttle body during the cleaning procedure.

I've had my check engine light come one twice this winter. Once a month ago when we had a sudden cold snap, but then it magically went away after 2 weeks. Then it came on again last night when the temp dropped to freezing.
I have a 2014 Soul with 109,000 miles on it. The engine doesn't act odd at all when the light comes on, and the dealership isn't my favorite place to go, so I'd like to fix this myself if I can.

I've been having this problem for almost a year 2014 Soul about the same miles. The car idles faster when the check engine light goes on. It's sporadic and is starting to happen more often. Tech notes from my last ( of 4) dealer visits states Kia knows about this issue, has no fix and no eta on a solution. BTW its 67 degrees so air temp probably has little to do with it. It's a powertrain computer issue and really should be fixed by Kia under warranty but Kia Corporate has refused so far. Please file a complaint with NHTSA safercar.gov It's a problem they don't have a fix for and it's passed on to us the consumer. Every complaint counts toward creating a recall on this issue please take a moment and file.

My car has been serviced at the dealer several times. It's a PCM issue. My car has been reprogrammed and still get the code. As far as it being a cold weather issue. I got the code again and it's 67 degrees out. Per my dealer Kia has no known fix and no ETA on one. Every time someone files an complaint with safercar.gov it gets this issue one step closer to forcing Kia to fix it. Only takes a moment to file a complaint.
