Code P0505 Jeep Description

The P0505 code for a Jeep indicates a malfunction in the idle control system. This system is responsible for regulating the engine's idle speed, ensuring that it remains stable and consistent. When this code is triggered, it typically means that the engine control module (ECM) has detected a problem with the idle air control valve (IACV) or the throttle body. This can lead to issues with idling, causing the engine to run either too high or too low when at a standstill.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0505 Jeep OBDII Code

  • Hello. I have a Jeep Laredo Grand Cherokee 2004, 4.0 Engine. The Engine light is on, did the 3X's turn on and off instrument panel, got P0505 code. I have noticed before this came up, at start up, engine would start hard but did and ran rough for a few seconds, other times high idle. Suggestions on what I should do? Not sure where the location of the IACV-AAC VALVE is located, but would be willing to replace this if this is suggested? Again you thought?

  • The Idle Control Valve it's probably the most common problem for the P0505 code. The valve (motor) is attached to the throttle body. The price is around $130.
