P0502 SATURN Possible Causes
- Faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor
- Vehicle speed sensor harness or connectors is open or shorted
- Vehicle speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
How do I fix code P0502 SATURN
Check the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins.
Cost of diagnosing the P0502 SATURN code
Labor: 1.0The cost of diagnosing the P0502 SATURN code is 1.0 hour of labor. The auto repair labor rates vary widely across the country, and even within the same city. Most auto repairs shops charge between $75 and $150 per hour.
When is the P0502 SATURN code detected? If the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects a low vehicle speed when there is a high engine speed in a drive gear range, then DTC P0502 sets.
P0502 SATURN Possible Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Speedometer may not work properly
- Transmission shifting problem
P0502 SATURN MeaningThe Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) assembly provides vehicle speed information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The VSS assembly is a Permanent Magnet (PM) generator. The PM generator produces a pulsing AC voltage as rotor teeth on the transmission output shaft pass through the sensor's magnetic field. The AC voltage level and the number of pulses increase as the speed of the vehicle increases. The PCM converts the pulsing voltage to vehicle speed. The PCM uses the vehicle speed signal to determine shift timing and torque converter clutch (TCC) scheduling.
