  • hi, other symtomps well, sometimes i have a problem that doesnt keep de minimal revolutions, i dont know if IAC (iddle air control) sensor could be damaged, and when i release the acelerator pedal the car bumps a bit, it doesnt do a smooth deaceleration, i disconected main battery and checked VSS sensor conector and unplugged it, i move the cable conector to a extended position to see if conector cable could be broken, reconected main battery and in 2 days the check engine has not lightened up yet.....could IAC sensor be doing some kind of problem that makes the check engine light to show up and with scanner show a VSS low voltage problem? i dont think so....but it´s something weird the behavior of my aveo when check engine light shows up.....starting with a non normal IAC functionm and when i turn on A/C the minimal revolutions go up to 2000 RPms then go down to 1200 rpm then once again go up to 2000 rpms.....then i turn off A/C then rpms return to 800 but go up to 1200 rpms in a 2 seconds....and this keep happening when check engine light it´s up, but when light its not on, rpms keep stable in 800 rpms, even when i turn on A/C.....hope you can help me with this symptons, and thanks with your previous comments

    • Yes, it can — but it depends on how the vehicle is programmed and how bad the signal problem is.

      A P0502 means the ECM is seeing a very low or missing signal from the vehicle speed sensor. When that happens, the computer no longer knows how fast the vehicle is actually moving, and that affects a lot more than just the speedometer.

      On many Chevrolet vehicles, a bad or missing VSS signal can trigger a reduced power or limp mode as a protective strategy. The transmission may default to a single gear (often 2nd or 3rd), shifts may be harsh or disabled, cruise control usually stops working, ABS and traction control lights may come on, and engine power can be limited. This is the computer’s way of preventing transmission damage when it can’t calculate shift timing correctly.

      That said, not every P0502 will immediately cause limp mode. If the signal is intermittent or only slightly out of range, you might just see erratic speedometer behavior or poor shifting at first. When the signal drops out completely or stays low consistently, limp mode is much more likely.

      Common causes aren’t always the sensor itself. Wiring damage, corrosion in the connector, debris on the sensor tip, a damaged tone ring, or even a failing wheel speed sensor (on vehicles that use ABS data for vehicle speed) can all trigger P0502.
