P0500 Lexus Code - Vehicle Speed Sensor 'A'

I like to know were is the speed sensor on my 2000 Lexus

2000 Lexus, but what model??

i have an ES300 2000.  took it to a transmission shop and they said they didnt see the speed sensor that controls the odometer and speedometer on the outside of the tranny. they said it may be under the pan.  is this true.  are there any diagrams?

I got this code and after driving car for 2 minutes transmission will bounce in between gears and won't grab a gear then will try to more forward after I have stopped and every gear is neutral with park working fine. Transmission pump is also whining with fluid level good with it smelling slightly burnt. Car is a 2002 Lexus RX300

Last time I drove the car I had it seemed like it was always in second gear. Whenever I park and stop, the car jerks when I press on the gas to move again. And if I don't press on the gas, it wont move (unless on a hill). One time, it refused to go into reverse... which was bad since I was backing up out of a driveway up a hill. I have a 1999 Lexus RX 300. I also have to code P0765.

You should start by checking the transmission fluid level and condition. if the level is OK and the fluid is clean, then you may have to have a transmission specialist check the transmission for you.

At this point you probably have to have a transmission specialist check the transmission for you. Due to the age of your Lexus, the transmission may need to be rebuild.

You have to remove the battery and air filter box to view and access the sensor. Here is the location for the 2000 Lexus ES300

For you 2000 GS300 the speed sensor is in the transmission

I got this trouble code for my 1994 ES300. It saiid that there was a problem with Speed Sensor A, my question is where exactly is this located.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is located on top on the transmission.

please where is the location for the speed sensor for LX 470 2003 MODEL

On your LX470 the sensor is at the end of the transmission. If speedometer is not working then the sensor is more than likely the problem. If the speedometer is working, but you have the P0500 code, then it's possible that the problem is the speedometer it self.

Only one sensor problem for the P0500 code. The sensor is on top of the transmission. You have to remove the battery and air cleaner assembly to access the sensor on top of the transmission.

In your 2007 Lexus ES 350, the vehicle speed does not come from just one sensor. All four wheel speed sensor (ABS Sensors) send the signal to the ABS control unit, and then the ABS control unit sends the signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). Unfortunately the P0500 code it doesn't indicate which sensor is bad, you have to inspect all four wheel speed sensors.

Unfortunately vehicles calculates speed in different ways, thus different explanations. I have attached images from the Factory Service Manual about the P0500 code. To check the wheel speed sensors, remove and clean the sensors, then inspect for damage. If you have no other problems, you could try just clearing the code and do nothing.

i drive 2007 es 350, my gear works normal and suddenly the reverse gear stopped responding once in a while which every other gear function well, i run a scan on it and got code, p0500 and p2757, which have change that but my reverse gear still kept on malfunction once in a while, am very confused on what to do.

When I put it in reverse or drive it does move but very slow. My question is, do I replace the speed censor, or do I have to get a new transmission? Due to the age of your vehicle, I recommend having a transmission shop inspect and diagnose the problem. From what you described the problem sound more than just a sensor. Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition?

I know this posting is old, but I'd like to thank you for all your responses to the many questions regarding the P0500 code. I purchased a used 2010 IS250 AWD and had my mechanic check it out before purchase, and he gave me the green light. Over the last few weeks, My check engine light & Traction Control light come on simultaneously. I'm not a mechanic, but own a scanner and it states the P0500 code and Speed Sensor 1, 2, 3. The speedometer works fine as does the rest of the car. I have cleared the codes consistently, yet I need to get this fixed. My former mechanic is a Volvo mechanic and he won't deal with a Lexus. Any thoughts, or should I just re-read your answers. The dealership did brakes before I purchased the car, yet I do not think the rotors were done. Thanks for your assistance if by some slim chance you get this message, seeing that the posting is 4 yrs old.

For your model year, the most common problem for the P0500 code is the Transmission Input Shaft Speed Sensor. The sensor is on the right side of the transmission.

Got these 3 codes..I have a 2007 Lexus is250 159000miles (p0500-p0761-p2714) car won’t reverse..accelerates very slow with the rpms at the max..once it picks up speed it tends to drive but with difficulty..where do you recommend I start?

Need help code is always be in there, 0500 LS 460. i already change the 3 pcs of sensor witch is speed sensor and the wire for two times ang about the harness so far so good nomore short circuit and have a continuity in every wire and the ECT computer is new and thesame number and the gear i already change those input and output shalft with the clutch drum were the sensor is pointing. I got the P0500 error on my Lexus RX 300 2004 ( second gen), Odometer is working, error states its a faulty speed sensor. Thing is that if I disconnect the minus on the battery for couple of hours the car stars driving normally. But after driving 300-400 km it appears again, i think its going in some kind of safe mode as its starts skipping second gear and refuses to drop down gears, unless i stop. Any idea which speed sensor might by the one not working properly? Also where is the location of the 2 speed sensors, I read some articles that there might be a sensor causing this placed somewhere on the rear differential?

For your 2004 Lexus RX, the speed signal es sent from the ABS speed sensors to the ABS Control Module, the signal from all the sensor is calculated by the ABS Control Module and then sent to be decoded by the Combination Meter to show the actual vehicle speed on the meter. Then the signal is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
Since the engine speed is shown correctly (as you mention above), the problem must be in the Combination Meter, the wires from the Combination Meter to the ECM, or the ECM itself.

So the transmission speed sensors don't play a role here, only the ABS speed sensors? Also just to add, I don't have any indicators on the dashboard such as VSC or Check engine light, only I noticed that my cruise control isn't working. Thanks.

For your vehicle is correct.

The cruise control receives the signal from the ECM. If the ECM is not getting a speed signal o a incorrect speed signal, then the cruise control won't work.
