We have a customer with an 09 camry that was recently zapped by lightening. It zapped the computer. We replaced the computer with a used one to save money for our customer. We were having an immobilization code and thanks to this website we found the shortcut and it cranked beautifully. We have repaired a number of other things damaged but one is stumping us a little. We do not want to just start replacing vehicle speed sensors if they are not bad. The code we have is P0500. We read that some of the time the different ecm will lose communication and that the sensor is not actually bad. My question : Is there a series of things we can do to check and make sure it resets to the new computer or is it more likely that both of the vehicle speed sensors did actually get zapped. The code is giving us every indication that they are bad we just wanted a little advice and see if someone else had another back door way to verify before we spend the money. We are trying to save our customer as much as possible since so much was damaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this site and thank you so much in advance.

We have verified that the vehicle speed sensors are just fine. I do know that Toyota has had a lot of problems with this p0500 code and it usually just has to be recalibrated. I just wanted to give it one more shot to see if there was a was to reset it without having to take it to Toyota. since the sensors are definitely not bad I was just hoping there would be some kind of "magic" reset like there was for the immobilization code. Just trying to save the customer some money. We are pretty sure this was a problem before the vehicle was hit by lightening but it has been very hard getting a shall we say accurate answer from the customer about what was working and what wasn't before the strike. Just a last ditch effort before hauling it off to the dealer. Thanks again for all of the help it is greatly appreciated.
