P0460 Ford Code - Fuel Level Sensor 'A' Circuit

My 2007 F150 has an intermittent problem with warning lights. There does not seem to be any thing specific causing it. I'm driving and I hear the loud warning sound and then all my warning lights come on in the dash, the speedometer, tack and the temp gauge quit working. I never know when they will start working again, sometimes right away and sometimes not for days. Once in a while, I can hear the relays clicking when this happens but mostly I do not hear the relay. There are no codes showing when everything is working and very seldom does the odometer work. I have had a mechanic tell me it is probably a bad ground somewhere and he said "good luck finding it". Does anyone out there know what could be the problem? Cheers,

I found out the hard way on my 01 expedition. F-150s and expeditions were notorious for a winshield leak on the a-pillar about eye level. The water runs down the inside of the a-pillar straight into the fuse box and/or the gem module. I had those same symptoms. I pulled the fuse box (not as bad as it sounds) and sure enough, it had standing water and was rotted all to hell. Dont know how anything even worked at all. I ordered a new fuse box from ebay at a fraction of the cost of a dealer, replaced the winshield (had a crack on passenger side anyway ) it has been fine since.

Changed the fuel filter , Truck started after code was cleared , but didn't strat back after I got to work , code still cleared but don't wanna strat !

What model and year is your vehicle? The code means that the fuel level sensor is not properly reading the fuel level or the fuel level is too low.
How is the fuel level?

Half a tank according to the fuel level on the dash?

My 2012 F-150 has this code, but the fuel level seems to be accurate and hasn't been erratic at all. I suspect there's a wire loose somewhere but don't know how to go about finding it. Any ideas?

Have you try clearing the code? if you have, how long it takes for the code to comeback?

I have an '03, Ford 250 diesel, 6.0 I recently changed both fuel filters and oil. I also added an oil treatment Rev-X to help clean injectors. I drove 50 miles and on return trip, truck suddenly lost power, spit out a tone of black smoke and died. Truck will crank but not start. Appears to not be getting fuel. No engine lights came on. Code reads P0460...Please help?/ thanks

How is the diesel level? The P0460 is for the Fuel Level Sensor and even if the sensor is faulty it shouldn't cause a no start situation. Either there is no Diesel or the fuel pump failed. Also, make sure the fuel filter are properly installed.

The engine starts runs a few minutes then shuts off

What model and year is your vehicle? if the engine shuts off, you have the engine code P0460 and the fuel level shows there is fuel in the tank, then it's possible that you run out of fuel and the fuel level sensor failed.

Very useful information. My 2003 Grand Marquis with 41k miles has had a repeated P0460 code set that eventually reappears after clearing the code. The engine runs fine and the actual gas gauge works accurately. The TSB 05-11-3 listed fits my issue exactly. I will contact my dealer for a PCM software update and see if that resolves my issue. I will post any updates.

An update....I had my dealer reprogram my PCM software per TSB 05-11-3 and that resolved my problem with reocurring P0460 codes being set. This is worth having done provided your analog gas gauge is working good and there are no other related codes being set.
