The P0770 it's not related to the P0430 code, and the P0430 code will not caused a driveability problems. You should try to fix the P0770 code first, witch is the one that is causing the driveability problems.

It's possible, but very unlikely that it will cause a 25% decrease on gas mileage. Check other things like tire pressure, air filter and engine oil level.

It's a very common problem, Nissan catalytic converters have a high rate of failure. Did you use factory Catalytic Converter? Do you use high octane gas? Aftermarket catalytic do not last as long as factory one and low octane gas will accelerate the deterioration of the catalytic converters.

Unfortunately every vehicle is different and it's hard to say, without inspecting the sensors, if the problem are the sensors or the cats. From my experience 95% of the times the problem are the catalytic converters.

Without special tools, visual inspection will do. Disconnecting the battery will reset the light.

My 06 frontier just popped up the P0430. I cleared it and let it go through a drive cycle to see if it was a hard code or not.. but the MIL light returned. So I'm just gonna have to eat it and replace the Cat and the O2 sensors.. you can get a decent cat for about 160.00 and the sensors for around 35 dollars a piece, so it's not the end of the world..

DO NOT PUT 87 in a Nissan pickup/SUV.. They HATE regular fuel..and I have problems EVERYTIME I EVER DID,, I usually put 89 in but some days cash is just real tight.

Other than failing the smog test, no other problems. If the catalytic converter continues failing to a point that is coming apart inside, then it could cause a lack of power.

Wife's 2006 Pathfinder just through the P0430 error. Looking at the most common cause it seems like replacing the CAT is the most common fix along with the two HO sensors. Aside from that, are there any other oxygen sensors that should also be replaced?

No other O2 sensors needs to be replace, just the before and after sensors.

Calsonic Kansei I believe makes the exhaust systems for Nissan, but I'm not aware of any comparable catalytic converters.

I don't recommend to get used cats, rather than buy used cats get an aftermarket that you know it will last at least a couple of years (maybe more, depending on your driving habit and fuel quality), instead of used OEM that maybe already be damage.

You should start by checking for exhaust or intake leaks. If no leaks are present you may have a bad catalytic converter.

If the problem persist, you could try using high octane gas for a couple of weeks. If the codes come back, then more than likely you have to replace the cats.

2003 Nissan xterra. Started losing engine power until engine died, would have to sit for a few minutes and it would start back up and drive fine. This usually only happened when it was hot outside. Driving to work in the mornings (60 miles) it would be fine. However driving home in the afternoon, it would die out 4-5 times. Put some sea-foam and replaced the fuel filter, it still did it. Replaced the fuel pump, and so far it has been good, but this is only first day out. But now I am getting a P430 code. Maybe sea-foam breaking up buildup in the injectors? We are about to go on a trip (New Mexico to Oklahoma City) next week, and want to make sure everything is ok before we go. Any ideas?

I doubt clogged injectors or carbon built up could cause the engine to stall, sounds more like the distributor.

the P0430 code it's probably related to the sea-foam you added. Sometimes that stuff will enrich the mixture.

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima that returns a P0430 code. I had the catalytic converter replaced and code cleared to pass smog but after about 50 miles of driving, the code came back I looked at the voltages from the O2 sensors but they the voltages look good according to everything i have read. Front 02 sensor should have an AC voltage from 0.1V-0.9V and the rear 02 sensor should be a constant voltage around 0.7V. If the catalytic converter is good, and the 02 sensors are good. What else could it be? Should I replace the 02 sensors anyway?

Did you used a new factory catalytic converter? your Maxima has 3 catalytic converter which one did you replaced?

For a P0420 or P0430 code, you have to replace the front catalytic converter.

To be honest, I know it was a new catalytic converter, but I don't know if it was factory. I had the rear catalytic converter replaced. I have 3 converters? You must be counting the pre-cats. If I replace the pre-cat, is there a particular brand you recommend? If the pre-cat in bank 2 is bad, why do the 02 sensor voltages look good? Attached is what my car looks like underneath.

Unfortunately your vehicle is a bit confusing. If you are having issues with the P0420 or P0430 codes, then the problem are the Pre-Cats. If there is an issue passing the smog check, the problem is the rear catalytic.

In your case, what you need to replace is the Pre-Cat Bank 2. You can use any brands, as long as it meet the factory specs.

Unfortunately the aftermarket components makes it difficult to diagnose because all the parameters change. Only thing I suggest is going back to OEM cats.

I don't have any check engine lights on but it is showing TID$03 CID $02 which I believe is bank 2 catalytic converter but haven't been able to locate and mode 6 definitions.

What model and year is your Nissan? You may have hard time finding the definitions because the TID/CID codes are not very accurate and some manufactures keep changing the definitions.

It can also mean a faulty fuel gauge.

Nissan had a recall on fuel gauges on, I think, '04-'06 vehicles. I missed the recall so I just put some black electrical tape over the engine light and check the code every few months. Better than spending $800 on a sensor.

I've had that code on mine since 2009, and my dad had the same thing since 2007. For both of us it's a faulty fuel sensor. Nissan had a recall on them. Both of us missed the recall window so we just put some electrical tape over the engine light. Not worth an $800 repair.

I have a 2003 Nissan Xterra with 120,000 miles on it. i recently replaced my valve cover gasket on the passenger side, when I was finishing up it was dark and I accidentally cross connected my O2 sensor wires. When driving the next morning my check engine light started flashing so I pulled over and popped the hood, after quickly realizing what I did I fixed the problem. All my plug wires and all other connections are good to go now. However I have been getting the po430 code on bank 2. Is it possible my cat isn't working the way it should because I ran with such a rich fuel mixture for about 10 miles?

Very unlikely that the O2 sensors will cause that problem. Even if you disconnect the O2 sensors, you wont damage the catalytic converter. Now, if you cross connect the ignition coils, then that will damage the catalytic converter.

No need to replace any more parts, just make sure you use high octane gas and keep your Murano well maintain. Low octane gas is the most common cause of catalytic converter deterioration.

I have 2006 Xterra Off Road with 6 sp. It is a CA emission car, so it has 4 cat converters. 2 were replaced before I bought it last year. I then replaced the other two and an 02 sensor. Total mileage on cats is less than 15,000. But, P0430 code keeps popping up. I have cleared it several times and it always comes back. Mechanic says only possible fix is replacing (the brand new) cats. I have suffered a noticeable lack of power although gas mileage seems down a bit. No sulfur smell, etc.

Any explanations for why P0430 code keeps coming back?

Did you use aftermarket cats? Unfortunately aftermarket cats are very unreliable some go out in just a few thousand miles, but before replacing any parts, make sure you have the latest ECM program. There is no service bulletin for you Xterra, but on some other Nissan vehicle, reprogramming the ECM fixed the problem.

My 2006 Frontier is popping P0430 periodically. I do notice my truck is using oil faster now than it use to. Only 91K miles. I use high mileage Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30. My truck is highly modified. I put on Stillen Supercharger in 2008. I also added 1 step colder NGK spark plugs, JBA headers, Gibson Exhaust, and Magnaflow high flow cats. This truck has everything that Stillen makes for it like light weight crank pulleys. When I changed the oil last time it went about 2K miles before code popped again. I topped my oil level and expected to go another 2-3K miles before it popped again. But this time it popped right away. Could it be my modified exhaust just confusing the sensor? I will go ahead a change spark plugs though. Any insight or opinion will be much appreciated

The high flow cats will trigger the P0430 code. You could try installing O2 sensor extensions, but I doubt the oil consumption has anything to do with the P0430 code.

Any suggestions for 02 sensor extensions? Makes sense! I did same thing with my Audi that had modified exhaust.

The P0430 is for the Catalytic Converter and not the O2 sensor. The Catalytic Converter you need is the same marked above.

I know you made this comment years ago and I'm just replying because I have an '06 Xterra. The light just came on for his code and I looked in the manual and it said 87 was ok. I didn't know Nissan SUVs were better with 89

The test pipes are probably causing the problem. You could try using O2 sensors extenders.

Hi I have just had my 2006 Nissan Murano engine light come on. Took to a local garage to run dyanostics on it and the p0430 code came up. My issue is im away from home at the moment on holiday do you think its safe to drive distance? Its not making any unusal noises, smells or losing power. If you have the P0430 code, then you may have to replace the Catalytic Converter.
Before you replace the catalytic converter, You could try clearing the code, use high octane gas and add a fuel additive for a couple of weeks. Sometimes the fuel additive and high octane gas will clean the catalytic converter and take care of the problem.

More than likely the problem is the Catalytic Converter. If the problem was the Oxygen Sensor, then it will set an Oxygen Sensor code. You don't have to buy the Catalytic Converter from Nissan, if available can buy an aftermarket.

Would you change the passenger side cats? Or driver side. The code says Bank 2 but the description says Bank 1.

Your next step is to check the MAF. Other than the sensor for the P2A00 code and the cats for the P0430, I have not seen any other component setting those codes.

It's not always the case, but at our shop, we had a bad experience with aftermarket Catalytic Converters, they won't last as long as the factory ones. Try clearing the code and use high octane gas for a couple of weeks, and if possible, try adding a fuel additive.
