The p0420 code shows up on 2006 cadilac cts it says emission problems the cts has 2 cat converters i have replaced one of them and getting ready to replace the other one its costing 1200 dollars for both driver side and passenger side. How for sure you know that the p0420 is the cat converter i wonder after its done the light stays on and still show the code p0420
-
Most of the times replacing the catalytic converters takes care of the problem, but there is always a very small chance, that there is something else.
-
P0420 code.. which side is bad the driver or passenger side? All the sources point to the passenger side however I went to a muffler shop and they said it was the drivers side.
-
P0420 is for the Bank 1. Bank 1 on your 2007 CTS base model 3.6L is the passenger side. The image below is from the factory service manual.
PS I wouldn't trust a muffler shop that don't even know where the Bank 1 is.

I have a 2006 cadillac cts 3.6 it's popping up code po420. And po430code. Which cadillac converter is bad
-
The codes you have are both sides Catalytic Converter. P0420 for Bank 1 and P0430 for Bank 2. Before replacing the cats, try using high octane gas for a couple of weeks and, if possible, add a fuel additive.
-
It means that the catalytic converter is not performing as designed. You may have to replace the catalytic converter to fix the problem. Try using high octane gas and fuel additive for a couple of weeks to see if that fix the problem.
-
I have a 2006 sts that just popped up with this code today I checked my oil it was low I filled it I still have the code but the car is running fine

hello i have 2010 cadillac srx performance and the code p0420 came up i want to replace the sensor before buying the catalytic, just wondering witch one should i change upstream or downstream? tkia
-
We have a 2004 cadillac deville. The service engine light came on with the code p0420. Replaced the catalytic converter, but the service engine light came back on almost immediately. Took the car back in and got the oxygen sensors checked and they were fine. Our mechanic couldn't find any other problems. What do we do now? He suggested it might be an electrical problem. Could this be true?
-
Did you use a factory catalytic converter? some aftermarket catalytic converters does not meet the factory specifications.
-
thank you for your comments and information it helps me a lot. My problem is I went through some water a couple of weeks ago and my car started rattling the engine light came on about 3 days later it's been 2 weeks now the engine light is still on the rattling is loud it makes the sound when I apply gas I was told to have my catalytic converter screens cleaned and then I was told to have a it replaced or cleaned I don't know what to do it's a 2008 Cadillac SRX 6 cylinder
-
Help!! ? lol all this started when I went through a puddle of water engine light rattling I don't know what to do
-
If the noise coming from the Catalytic Converter, then cleaning the Catalytic Converters may fix the rattling but the engine light will stay ON. The only solution I know for that problem is to replace the catalytic converts.
