  • I have a 2013 Mercedes Benz SLK with the 4 cylinder 1.8 liter turbo and its coding PO340 and i replaced both camshaft position sensors and the problem still persists...I had the ECM sent out and tested and they CLAIM that a circuit was bad..and after this the exact problem still existed almost immediately...The engine runs fine and will start hard intermittently and other times at random it will start as it should...the car has 58k miles on it...Could it have anything to do with the one of magnetic sensors for the variable timing being faulty and not advancing or retarding the timing as needed?

  • Hello again...Kevin Huttman again..I've since replaced the magnetic sensors at the front of the engine on my 2013 SLK 250 1.8 liter turbo engine and the hard start condition at initial start up still exists..Thats even after the camshaft position sensors have been replaced and the engine ECU was checked and supposibly found an issue..which did nothing after both attempted fixes...
    The dealership says that one of the variable valve timing actuators maybe bad..where it bleeding down oil when it sets for awhile and causing the hard start condition.
    My question is if that's the case what is it thats possibly gone bad with the actuator to cause this condition..are there rubber o- ring seals in them that can go bad...I thought these units just have oil galles that are pressure filled with the engines oil pressure and that pressure is adjusted through the magnetic sensors through the engine ECU which in turn advance or retard each camshaft bank for optimum engine performance based on loads and driving conditions
