Code P0316 2002 Ford F150 Description

The P0316 code on a 2002 Ford F150 indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected a misfire during the first 1000 revolutions of the engine after startup. This means that one or more cylinders in the engine did not ignite properly, leading to a rough idle, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential damage to the catalytic converter over time. Misfires can be caused by a variety of issues, including ignition system problems, fuel delivery issues, or engine mechanical problems. Ignoring this code can lead to further engine damage and decreased performance.

  1. Faulty ignition system components such as spark plugs, ignition coils, or spark plug wires.
  2. Clogged or dirty fuel injectors that are not delivering fuel properly to the cylinders.
  3. Vacuum leaks in the intake system that can cause air to enter the engine and disrupt the air-fuel mixture.
  4. Low fuel pressure from a failing fuel pump or fuel filter.
  5. Engine mechanical issues such as low compression in one or more cylinders.

Symptoms of P0316 2002 Ford F150

  1. Rough idle: The engine may run erratically or shake at idle due to the misfire.
  2. Decreased fuel efficiency: A misfiring cylinder can waste fuel and reduce overall gas mileage.
  3. Loss of power: The vehicle may feel sluggish or have reduced acceleration due to the misfire.
  4. Check Engine Light: The P0316 code will trigger the Check Engine Light to illuminate on the dashboard.

How to Fix P0316 2002 Ford F150

  1. Diagnose the specific cylinder(s) misfiring using a scan tool to identify the problem area.
  2. Inspect and replace faulty ignition system components such as spark plugs, ignition coils, or spark plug wires.
  3. Clean or replace clogged fuel injectors to ensure proper fuel delivery.
  4. Check for vacuum leaks in the intake system and repair as needed.
  5. Perform a compression test to check for engine mechanical issues and address any low compression cylinders.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0316 2002 Ford F150 OBDII Code

  • Where do I start with a p0316 code

  • If any other codes are present, start by fixing the other code fisrt. If no other codes are present, then you could start by chanign the spark plugs.

  • I have changed all the spark plugs. The check engine wasn't on anymore. While driving I could still feel a misfire. I knew I wasn't delusional and sure enough the light came on again. I could feel some hesitation when I hit the accelerator. I check it with the OBD and got the code P0316.

  • Unfortunately there are many things that could trigger the engine misfire, which is what triggers the P0316 code. I suggest start with the more simple stuff. Try using another gas station, or use high octane gas for a couple of weeks and if possible change the air filter and add a fuel additive.
