P0191 Ford Code - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Soon after replacing my battery and installing a new alternator my engine trouble light cam on and the obd reader read a code of PO 0191. I cleared the light and has not yet returned. Do you think it was a electrical reaction, i.e. the system readjusting itself to the new replaced parts?
Should I expect or suspect something wrong with the fuel rail sensor? 

You should not expect or suspect a problem with the fuel rail sensor. You should definitely wait until the light comes back ON, otherwise do nothing.

I am having the code PO O191 coming up and the truck runs but has no power it seems to chugg when you push the petal, has absolutely no guts at all. Should i try fuel filter first?

I have had problems with my 2009 F450 for a few weeks. It loses power, especially going up hills or when accelerating (happens most around 3000-3300 RPM). The Ford dealership had it for a few days; but they were unable to "recreate the problem." (It was so bad I had it towed to the dealership.) It happened on the way home today and I had the codes scanned at Auto Zone. P0191 was the only one that came up. I had the fuel filter changed when it started happening, that hasn't helped. What should I ask them to check?

My 2005 Ford Escape's ck engine light came on and the AutoZone computer read P0191 192 & 193. We replaced the fuel filter and it didnt fix it, replaced the Fuel rail pressure sensor and it went off and came back on, replaced fuel pump and its still not running right. I took it back to mechanic and only P0191 comes up but we are at a loss. The car sputters at starts and stops like its going to stall, it loses power at stops and while driving. Any ideas?

Have you checked for fuel pressure at the fuel rail? what is the fuel pressure?

On my 2007 f150 it was the fuel pump module near the spare tire(P0191), salt
gets in between the steel frame and aluminum housing of the module and
in my case the housing was split in half from corrosion. Takes about
20min to change and $125 aftermarket module which comes with spacers so
it doesn't sit as close to the truck frame

I am having this code P0191 always and getting wrench symbol (power train issue) lights up intermittently. What could be the root cause? 2007 Ford Explorer.

Start by checking for fuel pressure. If no fuel pressure is present then it may need a fuel pump. Also, since you had to jump to start the engine, you could had a problem with the alternator as well.

Codes are not related, you could start by checking the fuel pressure. If no fuel pressure is found you may need to replace the fuel pump.

Our 2003 Ford Focus check engine light came on was bogging out sometimes when driving. We tested it and p0191 code came up. It now will no longer start. My husband replaced the fuel pump sensor but it didn't solve the problem. We no longer believe it is the sensor since it was determined it is getting fuel and spark. We are at a loss.

Do you know what is the actually fuel pressure? you may have fuel, but with not good pressure.
If you find that the pressure is too low, you could start by replacing the fuel filter. If the problem persist you may have to replace the fuel pump.

Replacing the Fuel Rain Sensor then light went off and came back on to me seems as if you got a faulty part.Just because it is new doesn't mean much anymore,Have bought several new parts just to have to remove them take them back and get another one and re install.

I would do a compression check on it,Just did a customers car did exact same thing.Engine turns over sounds like it should but what happened was it jumped one tooth off time on the cam gear.Installed rebuilt head no problem since.Hope this helps.

You could start by checking the fuel pressure. Low fuel pressure could cause all of your symptoms. If the pressure is OK, you may have an intake leak. If you have low fuel pressure, then you may need a fuel pump.

You have to use a fuel pressure gauge to check with a pressure. The gauge connects to the fuel pressure port on the fuel rail.

We have a 2006 Ford Freestyle with the code P0191. We were told it was a bad Fuel Pressure Sensor. We changed that. A couple days later the light came on and we changed the fuel filter. It was hesitating when accelerating had problems starting and dying after driving 10 minutes or so. We took it to a mechanic and he did a fuel pump pressure test. The car failed. So we changed the pump and the filter again. Drove fine for a week then the light came back. WE have cleaned the throttle body, the Mass Air Sensor, cleaned and emptied the gas tanks, checked the second sending unit all with a multimeter and it was fine. We are a thousand into the car and no luck. I am thinking the connection for the fuel pressure sensor is bad. Any ideas?

Good afternoon this is the third time this code is shown and it si the third time I have to change the fuel pump module and when this is done it work for about one month i the meantime i can change the module the mechanic make with wires a bridge in the connector eliminating the module.

What can be causing that this fuel pump module damaging so quickly?

Is the engine light still ON? If there are no driveability problems, you should just clear the code for now.

What model and year is your Ford? did you use new factory Fuel Pump Module? One of the main reasons electric components go bad is poor ground. Excessive corrosion around the ground connection or loose bolts can cause poor ground connection.

You could have problems with the fuel pump. Next step is to check the fuel pressure.

Any other symptom besides the engine light? Next is to inspect and replace the fuel pressure sensor.

I have an 07 ford mustang gt with the 4.6 in it. Had to change my fuel pump, old one crapped out completely on me. Got a Holley branded one, part #12-949. put it in. Right away p0191, p0193, and p2196. Changed the FRPS, fuel filter and FPDM. Now it's just a p0191. Fuel pressure sits at 74.4 and I can't seem to find what exactly is wrong. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the brand o fuel pump you bought, but I just check the factory service manual and the fuel pressure should be between 35-70 PSI. Is the possible you go the wrong pump?

It is a pump specified for the 07 GT. I've had experts tell me the FRPS should adjust the pressure down, but I've noticed the fuel pump keeps running when the key is on but the engine isn't running.

Make sure there is enough fuel in the fuel tank. Then the next step is to check the fuel pressure. If the fuel pressure is OK, then you have to replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor.

I have a 2010 Ford Mustang V6 4.0L and have had a check engine light on the P0191 code. It first came up a year ago and came and went every couple of days. I didn't notice any performance issues up until recently. Occasionally, the car starts becoming shakey, and I begin to lose power (while driving) for a few seconds until I have no acceleration whatsoever, and the car sounds like it's suffocating and feels like there is no fuel. After I let go of the accelerator for a few seconds, it goes back to normal. This has been happening very frequently in the last few weeks. Today, however, while stopped on a traffic light and gear on "drive", my RPM started going up and down by 1000RPM in each direction and continued even after I began driving. When I let go of the accelerator at about 20mph, RPM was still very volatile for another minute or so, and then the earlier symptoms of shakiness, total loss of power, etc. followed.

Side note: if this may be of any relevance, for the past few months I have been noticing that when I let go of the accelerator while on 5th gear (highest gear on this model), my car feels like it's being pulled back in the other direction repeatedly (it feels as if someone is pulling a rope from the back end of my car back and forth for a few seconds).

I sincerely appreciate any help or advice you can offer me!

Sounds like you may be loosing fuel pressure. You should start by checking the fuel pressure.

where do you hook the gauge to test fuel pressure on 2005 ford explorer 4.6 ?

Unfortunately I don't have an image of the port, but there should be a port on the fuel rail.

I thought that, too. I have looked and, asked, can't find anything, was told to hook at the line before the fuel filter, seems like a lot of trouble, but........

It looks like you vehicle does not have a fuel pressure port, you have to disconnect the hose that connect to the fuel rail and install an special tool to check the fuel pressure.

You could start by replacing the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor for the P0191 code, is the most common problem and that may take care of the P0453 code as well.

We have been working on a 2008 F250 Super Duty 5.4 that has the code P0191. We have replaced the FRP sensor and the fuel driver module. It still throws the code after driving for awhile and engine light comes on. This is the second FRP sensor that has been installed. Could it be the fuel pump itself?

Yes, the fuel pump or the fuel filter. The fuel filter is by far the most common problem that sets the P0191 code.
