i have an 06 chevy silverado 5.3 has P0036 code i replaced all 02 sensors and still runs like shit
no other codes are coming up -
There is something else causing the engine performance problem, O2 sensor will not cause the engine to run bad. If no other codes come up, then it's probably a mechanical problem.

So just got 2006 trailblazer lt (i6) out of trainny shop for the second time. This last time they replaced a shifter cable. Didn't know automatics had one. Anyways got 36 and 141 codes. Cleared em and swapped fuses and now just 36. Any tips on how to chew out trainny shop? Really hate aamco. Also does this mean will run ok just not pass inspection?

2006 Chevy Silverado w/4.3l.. P0036 Code detected. Checked fuses for o2 sensors for open. None found. Replaced the Bank 1 Sensor 2, reset the computer. Code reappeared in less than a few miles. Harness looks good. How do I test for open or short?

okay. found a broken wire on the engine harness. Don't know if that was there before my code surfaced or not. Replaced connector with splice kit from dealer. Have 12V on Brown (Wire colors L to R, Top to Bottom= Tan, Brown, Purple, Red; no Blue) but can't find continuity on any other wires... Hooked up sensor, reset computer via disconnecting negative cable, cleared CEL; came back on before I left the driveway.. swapped out new sensor with old one, just in case it was not bad. see what will happen.

You may be looking at the wrong sensor.
The Bank 1 (for the P0036 code) the colors should be Tan(Whit White Strip), Brown(Whit White Strip), Purple and Blue.
The Bank 2 colors should be Tan, Brown, Purple and Red(Whit White Strip).

Correct. Bank 1 is drivers side, but according to the service manual, the connector with the red wire is for the Bank 2. Unfortunately I don't have another vehicle here to compare, I'm just going by the service manual.
Also now that you fix the wire, you should check the fuses, just in case.

So changed out both fuses and CEL stayed off for about 20 mi (my commute home from work). I thought I had it licked... came right back on next time I turned it over.
I swapped no 2 sensors, and the code stayed on Bank 1, no. 2, leading me to believe that the sensor is fine. I then swapped the two fuses, just in case I was blowing the fuse, and the code stayed on bank 1 no. 2. It appears I have a gremlin in my wiring.
So regardless of colors... and pins are 1,2,3,4 from left to right, top to bottom, what should I be looking for? 12V on 2, and continuity to ground on ( ). can I check the other two pins for anything?

what is the red wire? if that is the genesis of my problem, what does it carry? is it ground or communication with ECM?

The red wire goes to the Powertrain Control Module. "C" on the diagram below. Again according to the factory service manual, the red wire is for Bank 2 and the P0036 code is for Bank 1

I appreciate you being so adamant, but i do know what side of the truck i am crawling under..The truck was assembled in Mexico. I have red on both banks! So can you please tell me what the pins are supposed to be identified as (A, B, C, D)? Power , ground, and which two go back to the PCM?
I keep reading about the exhaust grounding strap. Could this be my issue? If not I expect I will have to go to the dealer to find the ghost in my wiring bundle, eh?

D is power. A,B,C go to the ECM. The ground is provided by the PCM through "C", but the PCM will not ground that wire all the time, so can't measure that wire. The only wire you can measure is D for power. The red wire.

i keep leaning toward a ground issue. Recently (the past couple of months) my dash lights including the radio, will go dark. Everything continues to function, and comes back after a momentary flutter 3-7 secs. The dimmer has no function during that time, but will operate after the lights return. Could these two issues be tied together?

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2L . Both O2 sensors replaced . New codes coming up - P0030 and P0036 . Up & dowstream sensors malfunctioning . Those codes are coming up but honestly I started working on it, unplugged both sensors then I had to move the car . Replaced them , got the codes . Originally had P0171 and P0420 codes . All this work was to get the cooling fan AND a/c working . A/C now clicks and comes on . NOT fan . Runs cool . Any recommendations ? Thanks .

Since you unplugged the sensors and moved the car, it’s very possible the O2 heater fuse blew or wiring was stressed or pulled.
Here’s what I’d check:

O2 sensor fuse – On the 2007 Cobalt 2.2L, check Fuse F10 (underhood fuse box) for the O2 sensor heater circuit. If it’s blown, replace it—but also inspect the wiring in case something shorted when you moved the car with the sensors unplugged.

Check for 12V at the heater connector (with key ON, engine OFF) – You should have battery voltage on the heater power wire. If not, fuse or relay is suspect.

Inspect sensor wiring – Make sure no wires were pinched, melted, or pulled during install or when moving the car. Pay close attention to the upstream harness—it runs close to the exhaust manifold.
As for the cooling fan not running, that’s actually tied in to the A/C and engine temp sensor system. If the fan doesn't come on with A/C on, it may be because the ECM is blocking it due to active O2 or fuel trim codes, or the fan relay/control module is bad.
Also—P0171 (lean) and P0420 (catalyst efficiency) could’ve been caused by bad sensor heaters not letting the ECM enter closed loop properly.

- Fix the heater circuit/fuse first
- Clear the codes
- Then re-check fan operation with A/C on and warm engine
