  • I have a 2008 Highlander with a 3.5 V6 and have had this car to the local Toyota dealer service dept 3 times for this issue. The first time, they replaced the oil control valves, problem was still there. The next step was to pull the engine, replace 2 of the camshafts, cam gears, cam holders, and all of the effected gaskets and seals. The car was still making a clicking noise when first started, untill the engine warms up. I was told this was normal, it was the fuel injectors. 3 weeks later, the car is idiling rough at times, and pulling codes (MIL light not illuminated) I had 5 pending codes. P0300, P0301,P0303,P0305, and P0017. I did not clear the codes, We continued to drive the car, and a couple of days later, the MIL light came on. Took it to Toyota again, they said that there were no current codes shown, only previous codes (Bull snot). The dealer service reset the MIL lamp, and sent my wife home with the car, and no explination. The car started running rough again today, I scaned it, and found code P0017 in the pending trouble codes. A little later the MIL lamp illuminated and the P0017 code was the culprit. I cleared th code, and rescaned. Again the P0017 code is in the pending code list. There is a definate problem with the VVT in this engine. Toyota keeps jacking me around. The car has about 63000 on it and it is covered under a Toyota 100000 mile bumper to bumper extended warantee. Any sugestions? This Toy has been a problem child. The car accelerated out of control 1 time also. We were told there were no problems other than the floor mat recall. Again, Bull Snot. The engine was racing when my wife put it in neutral. The engine contiued to race untill she shut the car off. When she refired the engine, the engine was running normal. This does not sound like a sticking accelerator pedal to me.
