Code P0011 Hyundai Description

The P0011 Hyundai code indicates that the 'A' camshaft position timing is over-advanced or the system performance on bank 1 is not within the specified parameters. This issue can affect the vehicle's performance by causing a lack of power, rough idling, and poor fuel efficiency. The camshaft is responsible for opening and closing the valves at the correct time in relation to the crankshaft, which is crucial for the engine's proper functioning. When the camshaft position is over-advanced, it can lead to incorrect valve timing, which can result in poor engine performance and even potential damage if not addressed promptly.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0011 Hyundai OBDII Code

  • The engine oil initially was @ 3/4 full. As whether the oil was dirty is not likely as it was replaced 2 months back. Incorrect timing was not likely as the engine timing belt has not been touched. Most likely the Actuator and Oil Pressure r the main cause of the fault code. Will confirm again once the relevant parts r replaced and tested.

  • Check engine light came on during road trip. Turns out the oil dipstick was dry. Added oil and found P0011 with reader once I got home. Attributing check light to low oil since confirming code on this site. Thanks.

  • Our 2007 Sonata check engine light has been going on and off for several years. We passed the first emission test 2 yrs ago after changing the oil. The light was on before the oil change, went off after, had the car tested a week later and it passed. Just got our second emission notice. Tested it while the light was on and code P0011 showed up. We paid a garage $95 to check it out and they had a "hunch" it was a solenoid and they wanted over $300 to fix it. We did the oil change that was due instead. The light went off for a few days but then back on again. We waited a couple weeks and when the light went off again we immediately took it for a retest and it passed.

  • check engine light came off and on for a long time now. had oil changed and light stays on now. what is it

  • Its possible that you used the wrong oil thickness, that could cause the P0011 code to set.

  • My Check Engine light won't go off on my 2007 Sonata.. I got an oil change after finding out that the code P0011 was showing up hoping that it was just dirty oil but that isn't the issue.. I'm not car smart so I don't understand what any of this means.. Help please?

  • The code means that the systems that advance and retards the engine timing (engine advance and retards the timing to save gas) is not working properly. Usually the problem is a sticking valve. The valve gets sticky due to dirty oil or lack of oil changes.

If you already change the oil and the problem still exists, then you can either wait sometime (may need a couple of oil changes to get the valve unstuck) or just change the valve.

  • How much would it take to fix an issue like this? I am looking at buying an 06 Sonata with either the System Performance Bank 1 as the issue or Camshaft position timing over advanced (code: P0011). I am trying to determine a ballpark of how much it'll cost me to fix her up.

  • It was $300 including labor and had to get both OCV(Selnoid) & Camshaft position sensor changed on my Elantra

  • It was $300 including labor and had to get both OCV(Selnoid) & Camshaft position sensor changed on my Elantra.

  • I had the same problem with Tuscon. I found the ocv filter needed cleaning. Once I did this, all was OK. ?

  • How long after you added oil did the check engine light take to go off? I just got oil changed this evening. Light came on this afternoon

  • Did you use the oil weight recommended by the factory?

  • 2007 Hyundai Tucson. Had timing belt and water pump changed. Engine became hard to start almost immediately. Mechanic told me VVT needed to be changed. This did not solve the starting problem, but now Check Engine light came on with P0011 code….what gives?

  • Sounds like the timing belt was not properly installed. The symptoms of your problem, hard start en engine code P0011, are the most common when the timing belt is installed out of time.
