Code P0011 Cadillac Description
The P0011 Cadillac code indicates that there is a problem with the Intake Camshaft Position System Performance. This means that the engine control module (ECM) has detected that the intake camshaft is not performing within the expected parameters. The intake camshaft is responsible for controlling the opening and closing of the intake valves, which is crucial for the engine's performance. If this system is not functioning properly, it can lead to issues with fuel efficiency, power output, and overall engine performance.
Common Causes of P0011 Cadillac
- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor: A malfunctioning camshaft position sensor can trigger this code.
- Timing Chain Issues: Problems with the timing chain can affect the timing of the intake camshaft, leading to performance issues.
- Oil Flow Restrictions: Restrictions in oil flow to the camshaft can cause it to not function properly.
- Wiring or Connector Problems: Issues with the wiring or connectors related to the camshaft position system can also be a cause of this code.
Symptoms of P0011 Cadillac
- Check Engine Light: The most common symptom associated with this code is the illumination of the check engine light on the dashboard.
- Rough Idling: The engine may experience rough idling or stalling at low speeds.
- Decreased Fuel Efficiency: A decrease in fuel efficiency may be noticed due to the improper functioning of the intake camshaft.
- Loss of Power: The vehicle may experience a loss of power during acceleration or while driving uphill.
- Engine Misfires: Misfires in the engine cylinders can occur as a result of the intake camshaft not operating correctly.
How to Fix P0011 Cadillac
- Diagnose the Issue: Use a diagnostic tool to identify the specific cause of the code.
- Replace Camshaft Position Sensor: If the sensor is faulty, it will need to be replaced.
- Inspect Timing Chain: Check the timing chain for any wear or damage and replace if necessary.
- Check Oil Flow: Ensure that there are no restrictions in the oil flow to the camshaft.
- Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check for any damaged wiring or connectors and repair or replace as needed.
Cost to Fix P0011 Cadillac
The typical repair costs for addressing the P0011 Cadillac code can range from $200 to $500, depending on the specific cause of the issue and the parts needed for the repair. It's important to note that labor rates at auto repair shops can vary, so it's advisable to check with local shops for a more accurate estimate.
Tech Notes for P0011 Cadillac
In rare instances, the P0011 and or P0014 diagnostic codes are set in the ECM as history or current. If the diagnostics do not lead to a resolution, remove the camshaft solenoids, and inspect the screens for debris. If debris is present, clean off the screens with brake cleaner. Reinstall the solenoids and evaluate if the DTC still sets. If the code resets or the screen does not have debris on them, remove the camshaft actuator associated with the DTC(s). With light air pressure, blow out the oil passages through the camshaft actuator solenoid port in the head while holding a rag over the camshaft actuator oil passages to keep the oil from spraying out all over the vehicle/engine. Lubricate the camshaft solenoid seal(s) with clean engine oil and reinstall. Install a new camshaft actuator associated with the code(s). Evaluate the vehicle and monitor the camshaft actuator activity.

How much should a ECM replacement cost at a dealer? What about if it is a solenoid problem? Just don't want to get ripped off. Thanks!
-
An ECM is over $700, but you shouldn't start with the ECM. Start by changing engine oil and filter and clear the code.

I have a 2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0L turbo with the check engine light on and a P0011 code. I bought the car used and changed the oil and two days later the check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic who checked the code and advised to clear the code and wait and see if it came back. About a week later the check engine light came back on and the code came up again as P0011. The mechanic advised that I change the camshaft position sensor. Will see if this fixes it.

I hope that fixes the problem. Do you know what oil weight did mechanic used? make sure you use the factory recommended oil wight.
