Just cleaned or replaced the throttle body and now you've got one or more of these symptoms?
- Fluctuating idle
- MIL on with DTC P2279 (intake air system leak)
- MIL on with P0507 (idle control system RPM higher than expected)
What's probably happened is the throttle plate is now in a different position from the one the ECM/PCM had learned.
To fix this problem, the ECM/PCM has to relearn the current closed throttle position.
1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
2. Start the engine with the shift lever in P, parking brake on, and hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm until the radiator fan comes on.
3. Let the engine idle for 10 minutes with the throttle fully closed.
Check the 'Possible Causes' listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
The cost to diagnose the P2279 Honda code is 1.0 hour of labor. The diagnosis time and labor rates at auto repair shops vary depending on the location, make and model of the vehicle, and even the engine type. Most auto repair shops charge between $75 and $150 per hour.
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces Hydrocarbon (HC) emissions. The PCV system recirculates unburned air/fuel mixture (blow-by gas) into the intake manifold so that it is drawn into the engine and burned, thus reducing HC. If the PCV hose comes off at idle with the throttle closed, the amount of air supplied to the engine is considerably more than the amount of air the idle control system supplies. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) estimates the amount of air supplied to the engine while the throttle valve is fully closed, and if the estimated amount is more than the upper limit, it detects a malfunction and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
